Captain EO with Michael Jackson Disneyland attraction.

Who remembers this wickedly cool Disneyland 3D movie attraction? i was 12 in 1993 when i went to Disneyland and it was a very nice 3D 17 minute movie that rocked even with Michael Jackson in his old school days before his death and child molestation accusations.Of course Rick Baker did creature and make-up effects with Francis Ford Coppola as director and George Lucas as producer.

I remember seeing that as a child in Disneyworld and being terrified. It's honestly one of the first things I thought about when I heard the news of his passing.

I hear a rumor that California Adventure (One of the two California parks) will re-issue Captain EO in the wake of MJ's death at one of the attractions.

I was four when I took my first trip to Disneyland, back in 1988. It was the hottest and most crowded part of the year; the drinking fountains had no water flowing out of them, and we waited two hours to get a hot dog. Went on Dumbo and the Carousel (which took about 2 hours in line for each), then took a late-day rest at the hotel room. Came back and went to Captain Eo and Star Tours (which I fell asleep on as I was suffering from heat stroke).

Next day we were supposed to go to Knott's Berry Farm, but I was so sick my parents decided on us just heading home. I remember, quite vividly, sitting at Denny's, being unable to stomach the idea of eating, and being very disappointed that we weren't going to go to KBF, even though I had no idea what it was.

So amongst all the bad memories of my first trip to Disneyland, only a few good ones stand out: riding Star Tours (of what I didn't miss while sleeping on the ride), meeting Goofy and Mickey, and most vividly of all, watching Captain EO, my first 3D movie ever.

I think it'd be cool if Disney had a limited release of Captain EO at theaters in Disney Digital 3D. That'd be awesome.

Yes, definitely. But I was able to go back at age 6, with my little sister this time, and it was a much, much better time. Then went to WDW in '96 or '97 (can't even remember), and that was cool except having been to DL twice, I would rather have been able to go to Epcot instead of going to Magic Kingdom. Plus that cake facade on the castle? Horrendous to behold.

But, yeah, I would love to see Captain EO in a theater again sometime. It'd be awesome.

Yeah, I found it... Need to get me some proper 3D glasses, though. Only ones I have are from Nightmare Before Christmas/Meet the Robinsons and the ColorCode glasses from SuperBowl...

Confirmed: Captain EO is Returning to Disneyland

I hear a rumor that California Adventure (One of the two California parks) will re-issue Captain EO in the wake of MJ's death at one of the attractions.
EmmanuelZorg Disney themselves will actually have it at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.

Disneyland says that "the attraction's return to Tomorrowland...

Disney has confirmed that the 17-minute long "Captain EO" will return to Disneyland for a limited engagement starting in February, 2010.

Dang. "Limited Engagement." Which means I probably will STILL never again get to see it properly, 'cause there's no way I'm makin' it to Disneyland within the next year or two.

I'm so excited that they're bringing it back, though! So awesome!

I still have my t-shirt from its opening day at Disneyland--unworn! It is a plain version of the swoosh shirt EO wears. And I "liberated" a pair of the purple 3D glasses that day.

I guess since he's dead, it does not matter he was a pedophile. Go Disney!

Is it illegal to slander the dead?

Not usually. And with all the stories that went on about him during life, he was one of the few people in the US who practically could not be slandered. Brittney was getting there.

And with the stories coming out about his original accusers and their parents...while his conduct was not what I would consider "normal," it appears questionable whether or not he was a pedophile.

"Hebephile" would better describe the (alleged activities of) Jackson:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebephilia

NOT "pedophile", which is so broadly applied that it's now used to refer to men who fancy 16 & *17* year old ladies, even...

Anyway, truth be told - afaik, Jackson was never *proven guilty* of anything...and last I heard, one of the boys *allegedly* "molested" has since denied it, and said that his *mother* was just out for blood money...

He's dead - he can't defend himself...I'd say let it rest.

I just re-watched this on youtube...

I think that little blue elephant keyboard player guy was moonlighting from "Return of the Jedi"...or maybe he's Max Rebo's brother-in-law who needed a job...and that bad lady looks like a cross between the Borg Queen, and a reject from "Cats".

And it's all very "Wizard of Oz"...or should I say, "The Wiz"...

And actually, it's not that much different from the end of the Star Trek "Destiny" novels, lol... *thumbsup*

Not exactly how I'd have put it, but I'm thinking along the same lines.

"Let's see...

"We distanced ourselves from him because of the accusations. Now that he's dead, whatever he did isn't important any more. Any victims there may have been and other people whose feelings we could consider have disappeared from existence when he died. Right?"

date set

The film will officially open to Disneyland guests on Tuesday, February 23rd.

The resort does note that some of the special effects from the original installation of the film will not be part of the return limited engagement, but that it will use a new print of the film

it will boast a new 70mm print of the film, and it will sound better than ever thanks to acoustic enhancements made to the theater

The 17-minute film cost a record $17 million in 1986, a cost of about one million dollars per minute of film, this was, minute for minute, the most expensive motion picture of all time. If you adjust that number for inflation, it rises to almost $35 million.

I THINK I saw it at Disney World once back in the day but I was rather young at the time, so I honestly can't remember. I did hear that Disney will be bringing back the attraction sometime in the near future- for a limited time.

It was a lot of fun when I was seven, perhaps the coolest thing at Disneyland.

But, like many things I loved when I was seven, it isn't so good anymore.
