Captain America: The Winter Soldier pre-release thread

^ I disagree. The original What If? #4 (The only What If? to not take place in an alternate universe), which told the tale of the first two replacement Caps, is one of my favorite books from that era.
one of my favorites too. i do hope at some point they touch on the subject of Caps replacements.

Interesting note: In the latest Agents of SHIELD, Rogers' identity is treated as public knowledge...at least by those who care to look.

Great story, but its just two Caps too many.

The replacement Caps thing isn't something that the MCU needs to bother getting cluttered up with. In the comics, they were retcons for dealing with the rather wide discrepancy between the 1960s story that established Cap and Bucky's fates towards the end of WWII and the characters' actual Timely/Atlas publishing history in the late 40s and 50s. None of that matters to the new continuity of the MCU, and having other Captain Americas running around over the years (some tarnishing his reputation) cheapens the impact of the original Cap returning after so many years.

OTOH, in the pre-closing credits scene of TIH, Stark says that the super-soldier project was discontinued for a reason. There's definitely room in that backstory for an attempt at creating another Cap somewhere during the intervening decades that went horribly wrong. They kinda, sorta covered that ground with Blonsky, but it would be interesting for Cap to have to deal with a nemesis created in his image. (Maybe the light-up shield seen in the Iron Man films was created by one of the Starks for the replacement's use....)

And yeah, nice poster. :techman:

I like the basic concept of the sidekick rising to the role of his former mentor, but it seems premature to consider replacing Evans in the role yet.

i'll be honest, i was very much against the idea of Bucky being brought back. but Brubaker really turned that into a great story. his era of Captain America is one of my favorites.

Yeah, pretty cool. You get the idea of it being a quasi-political thriller. It's not quite clear who the bad guy is, but that's not a bad thing. Definitely am seeing the different styles of all the Marvel films. Honestly, this is making me more curious about what Guardians of the Galaxy will be like. Either way, Marvel continues to impress. It's definitely on my list.

Really cool trailer. Looks like Fury is going to have a substantial part as well. That bit where Winter Soldier caught the shield was awesome. I hope there's a scene after Thor that leads in to this!

I wonder about that. I've been avoiding plot spoilers for Thor, but, based on the plot, it looks difficult to directly tie into this. I could see another Thanos teaser if anything. But they're clever, I'm sure they'll figure something out.

My guess is that Redford is the bad guy, and that he's
playing the role of Alexander Lukin in the comics, perhaps even being the Red Skull in disguise, as a version of that story. It would also be similar to the "Dell Rusk" story from about a decade ago.
