That's probably why they cut it.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

So it took 20 pages to get that ellusive fly-by-the thread poster who grades it an 'F'.
I've been watching that and sure enough no comments or owning up to the 'F' with any comments of substance.
Actually impressed it took 20 pages for that to happen.

I thought we used to be able to click on the poll and see who voted for what? Guess that must be a different forum I'm thinking of.

I think it depends on how you set up the poll.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

Yeah, there is an option that allows it.
Some people don't like it, probably the fly by 'F' voters.
My next poll is going to be viewable, just telling everyone now.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

So, we know that after Joss Whedon was hired to direct The Avengers, he went in and made some changes/additions to the Captain America script. Did anyone else get a Whedon vibe off of the movie's ending? That just really sounded like something Whedon would have written, at least to me.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

Went to see it in 3D today, and thought it was fantastic. It's a film with a lot of heart, but it manages to avoid alienating non-Americans by not overdoing the patriotism. Evans is pitch perfect in the role, and his final line to Fury about having a date was about as perfectly in character as it gets. Sterling performances from pretty much everyone involved, and the story was spot on.

The after credit scene was a nice touch, and the teaser for The Avengers that followed it got me nicely psyched for that film, so I can't bloody wait for next summer.

I also got to see trailers for Skyrim and Battlefield 3 that I hadn't seen before, so that was cool.

Off topic, but after seeing the trailer, this Super 8 film comes across like an American remake of Attack the Block.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

I thought the movie would have had a bit more gravitas if they'd stuck with the Nazis. I thought the Hydra troops were a little too comic booky. Yes, it's a comic book movie, but the original Captain America comic books also had Nazis. Nazis are easier to hate than fictional villains in fictional stormtrooper gear.

Sometimes the block should be attacked.

I didn't mind the Hydra troops, but it would have been cool to see a mix of Nazis in there as well. Or at last have his first mission be against the Nazis.

But it would've been really offensive to have it seem like Cap played a big part in the war on the Axis instead of the normal soldiers. Having him fight a group like HYDRA (who WERE all Nazis until they broke away) keeps the potential offensiveness down.

I don't think the Strategic Scientific Reserve ever caught on to the fact that Hydra was assassinating Inspectors General from the SS. In their minds they were fighting Nazis. Did we have to see a dead SS troop in the mix along with faceless storm troopers to make the movie stronger?

I am on record already for saying that a segregated USO show would have done more to make it stronger.

But it's not like Captain America is Superman. He could not possibly do it all. I think the audience would understand that. And I do get that Hydra broke away from the Nazis, it's just that they didn't look like Nazis. And quite frankly, I thought their costumes and gear were a tad over the top. It's like I was watching a cartoonish version of WWII.

Well it was a cartoon version judging by the Hydra supertank used in Norway. I think they dialed it back with the light armor at the labor/POW camp

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

HYDRA have been Cap's primary antagonists for a very long time. Of course they were going to be the villains in a movie.

I don't think it offended anyone to see Indy fighting the Nazis. And it's not like these are specific WWII battles we're talking about. It still would have been Red Skull doing his crazy, James Bond Villain thing in his mountain hideout, but he would be guarded by actual, authentic-looking Nazi troops to add that extra dose of believability.

It definitely wasn't a big issue for me, but I can see how it might have helped the movie a bit.

There were 2 "standard" Nazi's who showed up to inspect Schmidt's progress after a year alone. That he promptly killed of course. So I guess some "regular" Nazi's made a cameo. ;)

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

Oh, was it three? I wasn't really keeping score, just knew that scene had some "standard" Nazi's that were cannon fodder.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

Come on, guys. Cap punched out Hitler at least 200 times; how much more Nazi can you get?
