CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peggy Carter will be played by British actress Hayley Atwell.
Just got the news on CBR. I am disappointed. Was more interested in Alice Eve and was truly wanting someone as glamorous as Eve to get the role, not that unglamorous Atwell. What is it with Hollyweird passing up with hot actresses and going for ones that have no glamour whatsoever? Maggie Gyllenhall and Kirsten Dunst comes to mind as completely unglamorous actresses getting high profile roles. oh well. :(

She seems quite pretty to me, and a lot more suited to the 1940s than Eve (who's a more modern sort of beauty).

There are some unflattering photos of everyone.

She's plenty pretty, and a more proven dramatic actress than Eve (who, to be clear, I certainly wasn't opposed to casting).

I was reading comics in the 70s - always thought of Cap as pushing 40. To me he was always the elder statesman of the superhero set.
The character certainly acts older than he is, particularly post-revival, but no, he's always been early 20s at most starting out. He's only circa 40 like now in the comics (though with the serum, he still looks younger than that).

Of course, he was that age in the 70s, too, having been revived a good 10 years earlier.

He, and for that matter, early Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Tony Stark, etc., were written as men in their late 30s-early 40s back then. This only became considered too old to be a hero fairly recently.

I agree that Cap would have had to have been relatively young at his revival. But the authority of who he was, combined with the "man out of time" angle, always made him seem older.

Comics characters didn't age in real time then either (to the extent that that was ever the case, it had stopped by 1965 - Peter Parker took a normal three years to go through high school, but he was in college from 1965 until the late 1970s).

I am not opposed to her as an actress, I am sure she's good enough. I was just hoping someone more glamorous. Yeah, she has a good figure but ... her face. :(

I'm disappointed in beaker. I thought he knew this stuff.

Yes but this movie is set in the 1940s when Cap first becomes Captain America. I dont think Steve Rogers was 30 when became Cap. At best he was in his early twenties. His elder statesmen status come from being one of the first heroes and leading the fight in WWII not from age. Like many young men of his generation he had to grow up and take on a leadership role at young age. He's probably younger than Stark or Pym if you only count years out of the ice. But unlike Stark or Pym he's a natural leader.

He, and for that matter, early Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Tony Stark, etc., were written as men in their late 30s-early 40s back then. This only became considered too old to be a hero fairly recently

He was written as an adult, I'm not sure you could pinpoint an exact age. Older than Johnny Storm or Peter Parker for sure. He's also someone who has more incommon with Reed or Ben than he does with the average 25 year old in 1964. They were just being born when he was fighting the Red Skull. But the same time, unlike others born when Steve Rogers was, he didn't return home, go back to school, get married and start a family or a career. So he's cut off from his own generation too.

I'd say the one guy he might relate to would be Scott Summers. Who as the team leader of the X-men was forced to be wise beyond his years and some what cut off from his peers.

I think beaker would rather have a walking 35 or 40 year-old behemoth in the role with no required acting prowess. Who cares if he can act... the most important thing is if he matches the comic-book exactly!

You might want to check some of my posts. My requirements when it comes to acting skills are rather stringent.

May as well take this excuse to post another pic of my collection:

This display both amuses and frightens me.

Hayley's official, SHH has it from Marvel. they've also reversed the title. it's now The First Avenger: Captain America.

still just gonna call it 'Captain America'...

Well nobody can claim you don't love superheroes. Those collections are truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing them. Is Cap your favorite of your bunch?

^thanks, Admiral. Cap is definitely up there, though I have collections of several characters. Got into color work for a third rate comic house for a while, and rediscovered my love for the genre. I'm living my second childhood.
