Captain America movie rumor. And the role has been offered to...

Re: Will Smith rumored for "Captain America"

I think Will Smith is great, I really do, but he's not Cap.

If they're looking for someone to play Isiah Bradley, get Will Smith, he's perfect. They're not, they're looking for someone to play Steve Rogers.

It's an actor not associated at all with the movie saying 'he heard' they offered the role to Will Smith. I think it's just a bogus rumor. Somebody was probably talking about it to him and he took it at his word when it wasn't even true. If it was Jada Pinkett or DJ Jazzy Jeff saying Will Smith had been offered the part then I might believe it, but not some other actor just talking at the MTV movie awards.

This is a great idea and I'm happy to see that Marvel is willing to finally atone for their racist tendencies as of late by casting a black man as Cap. Bravo, Marvel. I will be the first in line.

Please tell me that you posted that with the greatest amount of irony and sarcasm?

Steve Rogers/Captain America is white. Full stop. His history is as a working class white boy who was a sickly child, suddenly transformed into a muscle bound symbol of his Country who fought against the Nazis and was then thrown out of time to become an unwitting symbol again for a struggling America.

No black actor for this please. it'd be like having a chinese Superman.

Brad Pitt is too old.

Jesus.
God save me from children.

Dick Purcell was 36 when he played Captain America.
Bill Bixby was 45 when he started playing D. Bruce Banner.
George Reeves was almost 40 when he first played Superman. Of course, back then adults played these roles, not little boys.

Captain America needs a certain maturity. He's not Spiderman or the Human Torch or Robin.

Bill Bixby was about the correct age for David Banner. Captain America needs to be someone under 30 because he was a young boy who couldn't physically qualify to enlist in the Army.

"Racist tendencies" ? They have nothing to atone for. Your personal issues with white people are nothing to do with Marvel.

Jack Kirby and Joe Simon created Steve Rogers as a white, blonde, American man and that's all there is to it.

I can accept certain people being white or black, like The Green Lantern would be a nice black character, but there are certain people you don't change. Batman is white. Superman is white. And I think, generally, anybody here would want Captain America white. Plus, do we really need another Will Smith hero movie every two years?

Yes. I like Will Smith. I think it's great that he does comedies, dramas, Oscar worthy stuff like Ali, and also isn't too much a snob that he looks down on science fiction movies. There are very few actors willing to both act in and produce virtually every genre of movie, and I appreciate that.

He also might be one of three black actors in Hollywood who gets hired because of who he is rather than because the script calls for a black actor, which I find interesting. No one can deny his charisma, you could even see it back in his music and Fresh Prince TV days.

:guffaw:

All popular characters will always be reflective of the current trends of society.

Are you being serious? How many people do you think would go and see a Chinese Superman at the movies? Or that Belgian Spiderman? Wonder Woman played by a guy?

Political Correctness. *shakes head*

^The guy never looked right as Superman to me. He was fine, great even, as Clark, but he didn't seem tall enough to be Superman.

Vandal Savage, on the other hand... oh, wait, sorry Smallville writers, we're not allowed to use that name are we ? :D
