Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

We're booked in for the first showing on Saturday (not the premiere here though) so I'll probably be trying to avoid spoilers til then.

Another TV spot with Spider-man

You can make one. Just put Spoilers in the title. I envy you though, mate.

Funny video that does exaggerate the damages in the end, I must concede.

Yeah, definitely exaggerated. I find it hard to believe that all of those people died just because Cap hit them with his shield.

Yeah, that's one thing about the shield that bugs me... It's a vibranium alloy, so it absorbs energy, which means it can protect Cap from damage -- and yet when he hits someone else with it, it damages them? Shouldn't it absorb the energy of those impacts as well and thus not hurt the people/objects it hits? I mean, you can't really have it both ways. The physics of a collision is essentially the same regardless of which object is hitting and which is being hit.

Maybe it's more just high-impact energy that it absorbs?

Or maybe it's like a sofa cushion, that is usually soft and cushy but can still knock someone around if you swing it hard enough (not that I would ever do such a thing). :p

Well it is still a metal shield and lays the hurt on people and machines quite often. I can't find the panel, but Cap's shield once cracked Wolverine's Adamantium skull open. In the comics the shield is a mix of Vibranium and Adamantium (more Vibra though). Add in Cap's super strength, which is said to be 3x greater than Bucky's (and Bucky being a top assassin in great shape). Cap is definitely putting people in the hospital, if not killing them with how hard he hits.

Not sure, but when the two objects collide an equal force is applied to both of them (but in opposite directions). The vibranium would turn this force into vibrations that prevents the force from spreading further outside the shield, but the force applied to the other object would be unaffected. Not sure if this is the supposed workings of vibranium, but it seems to make some sense?

Spidey sums up Cap's shield pretty well in Civil War. Just go with it. :)

What is the White House's stance on the Avengers? Also, retired General Thaddeus Ross is tapped for a post in the Ellis administration.

Next episode, an interview with President Ellis.

Just seen it.

One of the very best from Marvel. Maybe the best.

I'll have to think about how it stacks up against I.M.1, Avengers, Guardians and Winter Soldier...

I enjoyed it a lot too. For the CA series though, I think Winter Soldier still just has the edge. For the whole MCU series, it's close to the top though.

I'm not an expert on physics, but that would be my thoughts on it too, that it would absorb the impact into the shield, but can still exert it's own force when it hits something.

Maybe the outer edge is made of adamantium/vibranium alloy (with some adamantium support "spokes" radiating out from the center-back-side where the carrying handle is attached) to provide some punch without slicing people in half, while the central shield is made up of pure vibranium.

Nope that isn't how the shield is designed in the comics or even for the movies. Its a molded metal and is homogenous throughout.

I was watching an interview clip about Spider-Man just now, and I finally figured out something that has been bugging me about the suit. The spider symbol on his chest is way smaller that it usually is.
