Capt. Jack Sparrow answers letter in person

I've never really liked nor disliked Johnny Depp. He was just sort of....there. But this really scores him major points in my book.

Apparently, a nine year old girl wrote him a letter, asking Capt. Jack to help her be a true pirate and have a mutiny at her school in London. Well, they just happened to be filming the new POTC near there, so Johnny and a few cast mates showed up at the school, in full costume and make-up, to surprise the kids. How very cool.

Great footage! Better than they had on the UK news programmes this morning at any rate. What a great thing for the actors to do.

Can imagine how wonderful it was for the kids? I bet the teachers were flipping out, as well.

Awesome! That girl has to be so happy that she took the time to write the letter.

This is another reason why Depp is one of my favorite actors. He is one of the few actors today that really cares about his fans. :techman:

What made me feel old on reflection: the girl who wrote that letter is 9, which means she was about 2 years old when Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl came out, and about 6 when the last sequel did.

Cripes.

Wow, that's awesome. I've always liked Depp as an actor but this makes him all the cooler.

This reminds me of an episode of This American Life (from the short lived TV version) that told the story of a young man with a debilitating condition that left him unable to speak. They asked him what actor's voice he would want if he could have one and he said Johnny Depp, so they actually got Johnny Depp to narrate the rest of the episode in the boy's words. It was just so nice of him to do something like that and I really respected him for it.

He's always struck me as an okay guy. I don't like speculating on whether famous people are nice or not, but from what my stepfather told me (he met Depp on a hunting trip around 1993) it always seemed to me like Depp was a cool guy. If nothing else I've always admired the fact that he seems to be up for just about anything as an actor.

Aw, that is really cute. It reminds me that when I was in high school when 21 Jump Street was still hot, my English teacher had a poster of him... I think two posters, in her classroom. Of course, we loved going to English. Yeah, she was one of the cool teachers ;)
