Can't wait for vacation!

Hello my fellow TrekBBSers!

It's a really boring noon at the University and I just can't wait for my vacation to begin!

I've already booked a week in Santorini, one of the Greek islands at the Aegean sea. Despite having visited almost every other place in Greece, I've never been at the Aegean and I wanted to see what the fuss is all about. :p Santorini is not a typical island due to its volcanic history, but people seem to love it. I just hope that we'll be able to avoid most of the hordes of tourists and enjoy our time there.

However, in the 10 days that are left until I get there, I need to finish and submit a conference paper for the University. But I cannot focus to do any serious work! I just can't. I don't really like this paper (which is not good for work) and, on top of it, it's around 36 degrees Celsius outside , which makes it hard to even move around.

So, have you people any vacation planned ahead? Do you spent your days daydreaming about it?

In the year since I met my GF, I've been on more vacations than in the combined last 10 years: Bermuda, St Thomas (USVI), St John (USVI), Tortolla (BVI), Oahu, Maui, Dubai, Miami, Louisville, Paris, Las Vegas. In the next few months we already have plans for Daytona Beach and possibly Martha's Vineyard.

But I've never been to Greece. That's certainly on the list, though!

Yes and yes! ;)
I'm planning a 2 week vacation in London in October. The agenda is meeting old friends, making new friends, finding the best fish&chips, going on a shopping expedition, having a picknick at Wimbledon Commons, going to the cartoon museum and to Hatfield House and perhaps to Kew and Bath. And some x-rating stuff with my current lover  (wich is where the daydreaming comes into the equation)

I recently returned from a Caribbean vacation (my first visit there) in Turks and Caicos. Absolutely amazing place. In about a week and a half, I am flying out to San Diego (my first trip there, as well) to attend Comic-Con. Those two vacations would normally be good enough for the year, but now I am considering a trip to the Florida Keys this fall to get my scuba certification (I refuse to perform my checkout dives in the gross, murky mid-Atlantic waters).

I haven't planned next year's vacations yet but Maui is at the top of my list.

I never had the opportunity to travel when I was younger (the family really didn't take vacations anywhere interesting) so I am starting to make up for lost time.

Definitely drive the Road to Hana, but be prepared to take an entire day doing it. There isn't a lot to see in Hana, but the road itself is an experience. When I went, we set off on the road immediately after picking up our rental car around 9:30am, and didn't reach our rented condo in Lahaina until around 6pm.

I do not have any vacations planned at the moment as money is a bit tight and there is a strong possibility that I will be making a very expensive move in the near future.

But having traveled a lot in my lifetime, I believe part of the fun is daydreaming about the adventure before you go! The anticipation - the having something to look forward to: that is a great feeling!

Hopefully you will get the paper done and the next few days will fly by. Before you know it, you will be there, enjoying yourself!

Hope you have great weather and a fabulous time!

I'm about to take my usual summer vacation: two weeks in New York, seeing lots of Yankees and Mets games. :)

Then after that, it's off to Boston...for more Yankees games! (I have been to Fenway before, but never when the Yankees were in town. Should be an interesting experience to say the least! Yankees/Redsox is a great rivalry and I can't wait to see it from 'the other side'.)

No vacations planned for me. Too expensive. I also keep forgetting to request time off. It's easy to do in my new job, but I formed bad non-vacation-taking habits in my last job.

I've already booked a week in Santorini,
Have a nice time in Atlantis.

I and twelve other guys are road-tripping to Ohio for my friend's bachelor party for about 4 days next weekend. We're gonna go to the Football Hall of Fame, see a White Sox game in Cleveland, and spend a day in Sandusky being lazy on Lake Erie. Not the most exciting vacation ever, but I get to go out of town for several days.

I'd love to go to Santorini. It was one of the Greek islands I considered a few years back, but Kos and Rhodes won. I still hope to go one day; the name alone sounds wonderful to me! I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks holiday starting at the beginning of August. I hope we get some fair or good weather so I can enjoy bimbling around Devon and Cornwall.

I've heard that Santorini does not have any good beaches (due to the volcano) and it can be expensive if you aren't careful, but I still wanted to go. I want to plan an one-day trip to the island of Anafi while I'm there, the beaches are much better.

BTW, Satorini comes from "Santa Irene", a name given by the Crusaders. The ancient Greek name (which is also used as well) is Thira.

Got a week in Iceland lined up in mid-September, and I can't wait!

Oh...now that is pretty cool! Haven't been there, but have always wanted to go!!!

Hope you have a great time.

It looks like the illegitimate lovechild of Wyoming and Alaska, I am trying to teach myself rudimentary Islenska before I go, which ain't easy!

I've already had my vacation this year- Key West. Was pretty great.

Santorini sounds fab!

Try the Dry Tortugas trip next time in Key West. One of the best experiences of my life, I want to go back and camp there.

The only time I've been outside the Country is across the River from Detroit in Windsor Canada. There are so many places in the US I still want to go to (New York and Pittsburgh on top of the list) but in terms of out of country, really want to go to Vancouver and London. One day I will, but probably need to get more settled first.
