Ok, so first off it's not a trek book, I know that much. I didn't really see any other book related threads, so I figured I'd give this a shot. If there is a better spot for it, feel free to point me in the right direction.
Right, so, I was thinking about this book today. I can remember quite a bit about the book, and what it was about, but not the title and it's driving me crazy. (kind of like when you remember a line of a song, and can't rest until you've heard the whole thing)
It focuses on a child, near adulthood. He lives in a Utopian society where excessive emotion isn't really outlawed I don't think, it just doesn't really happen. All except for one member of the society who's role seems to be to save all of this within his own mind. He feels pain, love, anger, passion, etc.
When the boy becomes and adult he starts to wonder whats going on when he isn't given a duty like everyone else has, until he is eventually told that he must go to this one man to learn from him.
In the end he eventually leaves the community, feeling that his place is no longer there.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
