Canon events that were elaborated in the novels, comics and games

I didn't want to create a whole new thread for this, but maybe someone here can help.

Did anyone read a novel in the early 90s set during the late classic movie era (either before or after The Undiscovered Country, not sure which) that begins with the crew of the Enterprise-A having a get together on Scotty's boat? I have been looking everywhere as I checked it out at the library as a kid but never finished it, and I have seen no evidence of it's existence since. I would love to read it now that I'm older. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

Was that maybe The Fearful Summons? It's got a montage of Kirk getting the gang together which was cut from STVI and it could be part of that? Been decades since I read it though.
