Canada 2011 Census

If you are reading this and you are a Canadian who has not completed your census form yet I have just one thing to say to you.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, FILL IT OUT!

I am getting sick of hearing those damn census radio ads every 20 minutes on the radio.

[/rant]

Don't listen to the radio.

I completed all the "must' forms and then they started harassing me about the voluntary forms, which go directly from the post into the rubbish bin.
King Harper can spy on me if he wants the goddamn data so badly.

Well I do like to listen to the radio to and from work. The drive is only about 20 or 30 minutes but you can be guaranteed that I'll hear the bloody ad at least once.

jus think of the money that any American company (think it was northrop who got the contract) aren't making while your census form hasn't been submitted.

I filled mine out the day that I got it. And added in the comments that I wanted the mandatory long-form census reinstated.

I filled mine out online and was almost dying of curiosity by the end of it because it kept saying things like "Your answer to question 5 means we'll skip questions 6- 10 and go straight to question 11". What were questions 6 - 10? And why don't I have to answer them?

At first they came for the Quebecois,
and I didn't speak out because I can't understand what the hell they say.

And then they came for the Newfies,
and I didn't speak out because no one can understand what the hell they say, b'y.

I got the short form in the mail and used the code to fill it out online. Then a few weeks later, I got the long form and it gave me great pleasure to be able to toss it in the recycling bin. I'm glad it was voluntary.

Done weeks ago, but yeah those radio spots are annoying, so are those Fountain Tire ones , and the anti cell phone one about texting or talking while driving. every 20 or less minutes it seems.

It really shouldn't be, though. It destroys the statistical validity of the census.

^ I didn't like it. They wanted too much information that I didn't want sitting in a database somewhere and I was especially irritated that I was always among the 20% who had to fill it out. As for statistical validity, I used to give phony answers to a few of the questions anyway (I didn't know how old my dwelling was for example).

^ It's not like that information is being used to create some sort of file on you, though. It's going into StatsCan's database where it becomes statistical information, which is used in any number of different ways across the county, by both the private and public sectors. It's incredibly silly and shortsighted to be even remotely paranoid about that information, because it's never used in any way that would be personally connected to you.

And regardless of how truthful your answers were, there's still much more statistical validity in a mandatory census form than a voluntary one. By throwing it away, you're undermining important data and information that helps this country run.

The problem is when morons listen to the bullshit about the census (usually coming from conservative sources) and then refuse to fill it out.

Unlike when the private sector when it collects information on people and builds it's massive databases, there's no personal information kept and what's there is used on a purely statistical basis.

I filled out mine online the day I got the access code in the mail.

I thought the Conservatives lost the vote to make the long form voluntary? Or was it that they just lost the vote to eliminate it entirely? Either way, Harper is a tool.
