Can YOU speak Klingon?

^ Isn't that always the way?

But really, I'll bet Klingons have some pretty good swear words.

Here's an interesting coincidence concerning speaking Klingon: Anyone watch last nights episode of The Simpsons? ("My Big Fat Geek Wedding")

"Marge, you just agreed to raise the kids Klingon!"
:guffaw:

I watched a documentary by Marc Okrand on how he went about it. It was thoroughly enjoyable, speaking as a philologist.

I know a few words of Klingon, but that's it.

Now for the ultimate admission of geekdom: I am creating a language for the Cardassians and I use it in my fanfic.

Geek alert! Geek alert! Geek alert! :)

Of course, that phrase really should be in a banner at the top of the site...

I've got two Klingon books and seem to have one phrase memorised; "Where do you keep the chocolate." I can say it, I sure as hell can't spell it.

I've picked up a few words accidentally along the way watching it. But I think most have picked up a word or two...

Oddly I have a bible quote I translated to annoy the Christian Heavyweight Champion, telling him he can't truly understand the bible until he'd read it in the original Klingon ;)

There's an annual production of "A Klingon Christmas Carol", the Dickens classic performed in tlhIngan Hol each year in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. It's always been a one-night-only type of thing. This next year there will be a three-week run. Please come up and join us. Late-November/December is the perfect time to visit MN!

For info on the last two years' worth of the show, you can go to

No. I've never felt the need to learn a fictional made-up language. Although I used to build models of the ships, etc. which the local hobby shop displayed. So in all honesty, I cannot claim to be totally non-geek... nor ridicule anyone who does study Klingon.
