Gift cards aren't necessarily a bad idea. I know some men who are so clueless, that for them a gift card is actually a good idea.

Though I will say that when my boyfriend gave me a gift card to Frederick's of Hollywood that I opened in front of my parents, I was not happy. So a gift card is a possibility but can be risky.

If you do get a gift card, it has to be one they have asked you for. Lunch restaurants (if you don't see them for lunch every day) can work, but not dinner (why are they going out to dinner without you?).

Also, if they ask you to get them something from Victoria's Secret, a gift card may be the safest option....
