Well it has 400,000 downvoted to 80,000 up votes.
I think discrediting the fact that something rubbed people up the wrong way I'd disingenuous.
402k down, 81k up at this juncture.
Maybe it's due to these teasers being such shallow, pale-hued stereotyped templates that reek with corny muzak on top.
The teaser pretty much has Bruce/Batman vanishing - he just left. Everyone's like all pissed because they're owed something from him. In comes his snooty relative, breaking in because being a blood relative means carte blanche... granted, "your boss is my cousin", but did cousin Bruce skedaddle stage left before or after? She has no right to be there, never mind she's quick to stumble on the old hidden door switch trick that goes down to a batcave loaded with bats...
So she's trespassing, takes all his stuff, has a real attitude problem worse than the citizens of the city as she states with a high nose how the suit will only be perfect when it fits her... Granted, Alfred's line is also snooty-nosed with "the suit is literal perfection" and for all his protests of her not being allowed down there what the heck happened for him to change his mind so quickly? Yes, it's a teaser but while there are bits to wonder, one also has to take an active liking interest to actually watch the episode being hinted at. None of these characters is even remotely appealing, it started the moment Batman is said to have given up - though the more the teaser presents itself the only thing a viewer can conjure up might be "Wow, now we see why Batman vamoosed."
The villain looks cool, certainly is acted with a bit more flair and charisma than a $10 ironing board. If I watch it'll be to cheer her on.
The trailer, which I had to sit through twice now to make sure I was perceiving enough of it correctly, is great for a bizarre sitcom - at best. Now maybe with a few scene changes, and nixing that tritely creepy autotuned muzak, they could have had a compelling teaser that tells the setup of the premise a lot better. Or they made it that way just to mock-- wait, who the heck aren't they lampooning with that? After all, “I’m not gonna let a man take credit for a woman’s work” - except she's using all of the man's tools to do it, the only thing that said that is the teaser. What next, it's revealed that Batwoman there murdered Batman and took his spot as a season 1 finale?
