Can paramount save their foundering Star Trek franchise?

I'm not sure what the point of the graph is-except to share your unfounded opinion that this movie will be shit.

No one knows what this movie will be-might be brilliant, might be crap, we'll find out next year. Either way, people can choose to be there, or not.

I'll assume from you it's a "not"

:guffaw:

Unfounded? :wtf: Not since he found the future-viewer from "Payback!" Since rebuilding it using chewing gum and saddle soap, he's watched the entire movie--standing up for two-and-a-half hours straight on a metal platform, which is likely why he's so grumpy now.

The graph must be intended to be a joke - like the "Porn Freak" link the other day.

It's not funny, it's not smart, it's not accurate. Three for three.

Well I think the chart indicates how the general audience saw it but to me it was more like one big flat line of quality. The only Star Trek movie I liked was the first one.
At least it tried to be like Star Trek ie posing the big metaphysical questions. Philosophy is a good thing. It is really what it is all based on - ie the nails and the glue that holds it all together IMO.

Oh yea, the premise, storyline and the intersteller landscape can be updated and defined better.

I guess some people really do have nothing better to do.

I will now go to the future to find out how successful TREK XI will be...

*BZAP*

*Hops out of time machine*

"Soylent green is PEOPLE!"

Well, I don't think it's totally irrelevant, if that casting sheet wasn't a fake. It has the whole TOS cast, and especially Kirk's age is at least a few years younger than in the show...

That casting sheet was listing the target age for the actor who will play Kirk, not the character of Kirk. They may want to go with a young actor (who can play older) because they have sequels in mind.

A 30 year old actor might look too old in 3 years for the sequel story that I'm sure is already roughly planned-out.

Of course they went with 30-year old Zach Quinto to play Spock, who is supposed to be about the same age as Kirk (I think some say 1 year older). However, Quinto could does look slightly younger than 30.

Whatever they do with this film, they are going to shoot themselves in the foot if they try to make a future with the cast/characters that are in this film.

Oh, man.

Why?

The graph proceeds from a false premise anyway.

It doesn't take into account ALL Trek movies, only the Berman-era movies... and somehow manages to tag this movie (which, however you connect the dots, is UNDENIABLY UNRELATED to the Berman era!)

So... you either have to look at the Trek movies and TV shows as a full continuum, or you have to break it down by logical chunks. And no matter how you do it, there's no indication that there's a permanent downslide... if anything, there's going to be a massive discontinuity in the line.

It might suddenly fly UP... or it might fall of the cliff. But either way... there is NO "trendline" that can be drawn using prior movies to this movie. It's a fresh start.

Whether that turns out to be good or bad remains to be seen... though I have reason to be optimistic (and for the same reason, I really doubt that the "casting sheet" we saw spread around the net is real).

It is indeed flawless logic. His opinion on the 4 TNG movies has direct bearing on the $uccess of a new TOS movie made by a completely different group of Producors, director, writers, film crew, music crew, effects house, design workers, conceptual artists, studio heads, etc, etc. Clearly this is not a immature trolling comment, but rather a well thought out, professional opinion based on nothing but cold, hard FACTS. Bravo!

...if this were Bizarro world.

^^^
Well, yer chart is based on the performance of the previous Trek team. It's a whole new ballgame now.
