Can it be updated...

Captain
I was just looking through my "Star Trek Encyclopdia" I did notice this a when I got it, however, I have always wished that it was a COMPLETE Encyclopdia. It's publishing date, even with it's extra 128 pages of Trek Info only takes it to the end of the 5th season of Voyager and totally leaves out all refrences to Enterprise.

Do you think there would be any way that the publisher "Pocket Books" could come out with an Star Trek Encyclopdia that would include ALL Trek information from all Trek series and Films. Between leaving out 2 seasons of Voyager and 4 from Enterprise that leaves out 6 years!! almost another whole seven year series. Any thoughts??

Resistance is Futile

That is probably a better question for the Trek Lit forum. That said I doubt there will be a new version of the encylopedia (or chronology) anytime soon due to poor sales for non-fiction star trek books. If you haven't already I suggest you try using Memory Alpha.

It's been said that the publishers have no current further interest in publishing Trek tech or reference books, as they were not that profitable.

Imagine trying to work the new film into the Encyclopedia? OY!!

Easy answer, they're not publishing any technical books for the indefinite future.

I'm going to move this to Trek Lit and see if they'll expand on that.

Whoa.

I'm not sure what the point of having an updated Encyclopedia would even be -- Memory Alpha does a better job, without editorial oversight by someone involved with the franchise (as far as I know). It's what a Wiki should be, collaborative and fan-built. And, as a consequence, better.

I for one enjoy thumbing through a book to find information instead of looking at a computer screen as I find the former relaxing and the latter strains my eyes on occasions.

^ That a three-volume Star Wars encyclopedia was just published, while Wookiepedia covers topics with greater breadth, depth, and rapidity, is telling. Where a market exists for reference material, it seems to exist for that material in print form. Star Trek's problem seems to be in the size of its interested fan base, not in the possible slow demise of print.

They really should have waited until Voyager ended to do the update.

I'm kind of glad they left Enterprise out of the equation though.
