Can DC's "Rebirth" teach DSC lessons?

I think if the show’s pace was less JJ and the pondering was more TOS, other stuff would matter less.

It’s stylistically different, sure, but so were TMP and TWOK from TOS and each other.

(Then again, maybe then all the fans would gripe about would be the sets.)

One thing I don’t want is a platonic perfect TOS series. That’s called TOS. I wish they’d move into the 25th C and recapture lighting in a bottle like they did with TNG, but maybe they rightly know they don’t have it in them to present something very different yet spectacular.

...then again, maybe that’s DSC, and I’m asking for too much. It’s a good series in many ways — just too stylized...the ships are ridiculous and the acting too...I dunno...cute?

The series arcs are weak. The Klingon War I didn’t really need. DS9 did it better, though I liked that it wasn’t a retread of the Dominion War. And the Red Angel is just kind of meandering along, not going at the pace it should for how it was set up, so I find myself bored with it, thinking about VOY’s aliens of the week.

I also found Titans quite enjoyable, but then I bought the comic when it first appeared on the stands and don't personally see the characters as cartoons for kiddies.
Yep, this was a comic that featured a plotline that involved a girl in her early teens having a affair with a man old enough to be her father.

Here on TrekBBS I see the most support for the show, but outside of this bubble you'll get a better sense of how this is being received.
I'd say I see a roughly similar split in opinion on other discussion platforms I participate in (Reddit, Facebook Star Trek groups). The only place I see regular negativity is YouTube comments, which are so universally negative anyway we can't conclude a lot from that.

And with a long-running property like Trek, it is to be expected. A bad omen for the show would be if no one was talking about it.
