Can Chris Pine talk a computer to death?

Captain Pike: "You must the only genius-level repeat offender around here..."

That's what is called an "informed attribute".

Scene I'd like to see:

Pike: "You are flawed and imperfect! Execute your prime function."

Pine-Kirk: *explodes*

pine's kirk was described as being genuis level and who finished
the academy in three years.

:)

No matter....Kirk Jr. hardly came off as being a genius...I know he graduated in 3yrs...had the nohow and really the connections to beat the test...but I still didn't get genius...absolutely not.
My good friend and next-door neighbor growing up was an official "genius" (ne has an IQ of somewhere around 150 to 160 IIRC). However, there were times as a teenager that you would barely guess that this kid was a genius, let alone someone who would succeed in life. He didn't start fights at bars like young Kirk did, but he (we) did some pretty stupid things as teenagers.

He has long since matured and is now a tenured math professor at a major university and has published papers on advanced mathmatics that are respected by his peers (which I have read online and have no idea what the hell he is talking about :)).

So if Pike says Kirk is a genius, then it is established that Kirk is a genius...I don't need to see proof (although the rest of the film establishes that Kirk's intelligence is very high).

Good point that you and another poster made about being a genius but not necessarily acting like it.

I still did not believe that nuKirk was a genius...! I didn't buy it...I don't care that Pike was sellin it..... shit...I don't think Prime Kirk was a genius either.... Spock...now he's...he's a genius...we can all agree on that.

kirk prime was a genious and master of warfare. kirk jr. Is more of a genious slacker & underachiever that went to frat parties during enrollment. Different childhood & upbringing.

This is a very illogical statement, the guy got top in his class beating every aptitude score and he still isnt' a genius by your definition? "Absolutely not"? Are you saying anyone could do that?

What does he have to do, stand on one leg and sing dixieland while strumming a banjo made of chicken legs? How would you have him prove to you that he was a genius, then?

no, he has to be 78, bald, wear a toupee, weigh about 250 pounds, and breed horses. :p

I recall Kirk putting together seemingly unrelated pieces of information to arrive at a conclusion that saves the ship and the Federation. That might take some smarts.

While sedated and suffering from swollen hand and numb tongue no less!

If the horse could balance a man that heavy at speed at the same time as the man was balancing a dead tribble on his bald head, well that would make the horse a genius.

But it could be possible that both Spock and Kirk are geniuses, but with different approches. When was the last time Spock beat Kirk at 3d chess?

Well thanks for calling my statement illogical...that's the nicest thing anybody's said to me all day! Maybe one scene where he is in fact acting like a genius would of helped, so I woulda say hey...he looks like a cut up but this guy really has his shit together......the actor didn't convey genius to me. Maybe you can buy whatever they feed you hook line and sinker...But I do not.

I'm sorry you must have me confused with some Williy Shat fan...which I am not.

That's clarivoyance ...not genius....

Can we have some definitions here please.

What is your definition of genius? what does 'acting like a genius mean'?

The definition i'm using to believe it 'hook line and sinker' as you so gracefully put it goes something like this: 1) objective starfleet tests for intelligence 2) he scored in the genius scale.

Your definition:................
