When Viacom was split in half Paramount got the movie rights and CBS got the TV rights. Presumably both corps have rights to all previous Star Trek IP, but what about new content? If Abrams redesigns the look of TOS, can CBS use that without paying royalties? Can CBS do anything building off of the new movie on their own, or do they need to work with Paramount on everything?
Depending on the agreement reached when Trek was split I could see CBS being forced to use the 24th/25th century rather than having two 23rd century products in different universes.
