I believe it was originally inset in a wall; but I'm burning my eyes out trying to run through 7 seasons of TNG to spot it. Any ideas?

Are you sure it was used in TNG? Looks more like a prop from VOY or one of the TNG movies to me.

You could be right - which would explain why my eyeballs are burning out. All I have on it is what IAW tells me, and that's not much - "A self-contained backlight source with a circuitry display graphic created for Star Trek future films or episodic television. The item is made from molded resin and vacuum formed elements with a translucent ‘display screen’ that depicts a circuitry system close up when plugged into standard American power using a type-B three prong plug. The display appears best when viewing straight on as the item is separated from the screen by a honeycomb system internally. Two sturdy carry handles are mounted on either side of the item, everything but the display screen is painted metallic silver."

I remember this stupid thing from somewhere, and that internal honeycomb filter absolutely confirms it in my memory - but I can't remember from where.

The look of the prop looks like the Starfleet equipment from DS9 or the TNG films with the Ent-E. It was probably used on DS9, the Defiant or the Ent-E.

Figures - I was a letter off... ~G~ I can trundle through the E-films, but DS9 didn't make the archives over here yet. Thanks, Herk - I'll start running those films, and if I come up dry, I'll ship this over to the DS9 folks.

Try Star Trek First Contact. It looks like the panel Picard uses while planning the attack on the Borg.

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Edited to add:

TrekCore is awesome. I found this in seconds. It is awful close, maybe the one in your post is an earlier version of the prop.
