Can anyone ID this building?

I heard a strange story years ago that when they designed the building they didnt take into account the weight of all the books and that at some point the building is supposed to collapse because of it.

Simple solution; burn all the books.

“You see, it's no good, Montag. We've all got to be alike. The only way to be happy is for everyone to be made equal.

“So, we must burn the books, Montag!”

Robinson Crusoe, the Negroes didn't like that because of his man, Friday. And Nietzsche, Neitzsche, the Jews didn't like Nietzsche. Here's a book about lung cancer. You see, all the cigarette smokers got into a panic, so for everybody's peace of mind, we burn it.

What an ugly building :wtf:

It's as if the Architect firm changed horses in mid stream; two different architectural styles thrown in together without even the slightest thought of whether the result would look good.
You do have a point. The geometric block and the curvilinear lower structure don't match. Either part would look good by itself, though.

Good point. But I actually like the contrast. I'd like a chance to walk around it and see how the whole thing fits together (or doesn't).

They used to say that about the Dana Porter Arts Library at the University of Waterloo, and I've heard it said about other libraries as well. I'm pretty sure it's an urban myth.

The top bit has triggered half a memory of a prop, Star Trek I think, a data module or something. I want to say... Voyager but not so sure on that bit. grey in colour, about hand sized. Argh, that's going to bug me now.

Snopes says it's a myth.

I'm thinking about the "cuboctahedral solids" in TOS' By Any Other Name:

Well... in these days with memory enhancements (like google) that really isn't too hard :p

(The shape is wrong though -Perhaps some mathematically inclined poster can help us with the name of the shape of that building.)
