Cameron (Terminator: TSCC)

Or maybe she just doesn't like it. We know that Cameron has distinct preferences and emotions, though she'd deny it. We see her doing too many things that make no sense otherwise.

My idea is that acting human reminds her too much of Allison Young and brings up all sorts of lingering emotions that she doesn't want to deal with, particularly guilt or as close of an approximation as she can feel.

After Allison From Palmdale, I'd go so far as to say that the human-like persona is the real Cameron and the cold emotionless machine is just an act she used to cope with her emotions.

Or as part of her mission the emotionless terminator keep people away from John because she came as part of that package and who wanted to deal with a sister like that always being around. In the end it worked with Riley.

Riley getting beaten and shot to death is what worked for her. If not for that bit of luck Cameron would have had problems.

There are easier ways to keep John away from potential romantic problems. Seducing John herself, for example. She tends avoids that, though, except for that scene where he checked her for radiation leaks, which played out like two awkward teenagers rounding second base for the first time.

The truth about Cameron's personality is really tied up in Future John. We really don't know what he relationship with him was like, or what modifications he made to her personality.

The third season probably would have dealt with that in more detail.

I think Cameron loved John, I also think we saw in Cameron a terminator at the end of it's operational lifetime and also her chip was compromised at the beginning of S2, I have a few theories,
one being that Allison Young's mind was downloaded onto her chip as a way to keep her from going Aggro on John, my other theory is that Cameron's chip actually contained a copy of "John Henry"

My hypothesis was that Allison was Future John's lover, and Future John became a bit too sentimental after disabling Cameron, and essentially tried to turn her into a replacement for Allison. As a result her entire personality was shaped by an extremely complex and dysfunctional relationship with Future John.
