Yeah this is more a Sci-Fi/Fantasy general thread. EJA's Merlin thread must have confused you timothy. Looking forward to "Camelot" and "Excalibur" is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Timothy, one correction. Merlin is a BBC show. It currently airs on SyFy in the US, but the first season was on NBC. At the end of the day the BBC decides if the show will continue, and it's the UK ratings that determine that, not the US ratings.

well thanks for that info never watched it on nbc only scy fy .
love english broadcasting though .
what did you think of camelot on starz . english cast american broadcasting right?

I've never read that trilogy, which is surprising considering I'm a Cornwell fan and into Arthurian legends. Some day.

Have you read Jack Whyte's Camulod novels? I highly recommend them.

I don't have Starz, so I won't be able to see that tv series. I tried a couple episodes of "Merlin"; I wasn't impressed. I don't think the Smallville approach works with Arthurian legends--IMO.

Loves Cornwells Warlord trilogy. As gritty and real a version of Arthur as your likely too find.

Liked White's Camulod. Got a little too "cute" some times. Worked too hard to make everything fit.

I love both Cromwell and Whyte's books. Both of them really awesome. I finally read Whyte's books last summer and flew through them.

could'nt find whyte's aruthorian books on my nook all it had was a templar trilogy.
Has anyone read sir thomas malory's book which was the base's of the movie excalibur ? and does any one know a complete list of the knight's of the round table ?

also looking for 4th century lit same type of style . also merlin time line is a little screwed up . but they have introduced lancealot and gwain who are future knights .
and they are'nt using malory's base line from what I can tell. Oh I also found malory's aruthorian book on my nook . Only .99 .

Books set in the 4th Century or written in the 4th Century?

The knights of the Round Table vary with each telling. Any comprehensive list would include characters from books, poetry, movies, TV and comics.

Need to read more Arthurian Lit... most recent series I've read in its entirety was Lawhead's Pendragon Cycle.

I checked out Merlin, it skews a bit ahem young for my tastes. I can like a show like that - such as The Clone Wars - but there better be something about the characters and the premise that compensate.

Camelot sounds like it'll be in the mold of The Tudors - gratuitous sex, violence, and backstabbing galore - but nobody can whine about historical inaccuracy. Should be fun. :bolian:

I don't think the Smallville approach works with Arthurian legends
I don't think it works with Superman, either. ;)

My favorite Arthurian books are Mary Stewart's trilogy (or is there a fourth by now?) but high fantasy usually isn't my thing.

I watched Camelot this morning.

It's well made, some high end actors, a larger retelling of the story which I don't think is going to leave open to many any bottle episodes and reset episodes...

Tits and violence.

Male and female bottoms too.

It should be good but it's some how underwhelming,

I saw Eva in the dreamers a few months ago and she seemed allergic to clothing of any kind. Nice boobies but she had funny looking toes.

Claire Florani was unrecognisable since I am just too used to her horrible American accent to appreciate her as anything but a squinty little thing afraid of a stiff breeze. She looks good with a bit of meat on her bones but just not how I picture the woman in my minds eye from Mallrats and Meet Joe Black... Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Merlin on the other hand is a cartoon for children plagiarising the myth of Superman as a Boy Better than anything America's done in the last 10 years (he wears a blue shirt all the time with a little red Neckerchief!). Campy humour with marvelous cgi monsters and some truly over the top evil and moments of adult dread.

Merlin is marvellous even though it tends to spend seasons chasing it's own tail looking for a little momentum, not that there wasn't a sword plunged into a stone last season and Morgana took over the empire declaring herself Queen...

Evil reigns supreme!

How long have you had internet access?

Then you should read Cornwell's Arthurian trilogy, the fantasy is pretty low (as in none at all)

found mary stewart's trilogy on my nook it is in a collection I put it in me ewish list arera . thanks for the suggestion. would george r. r. martins game of throne series be
considered arthurian?

I've enjoyed Merlin, but it can get repetitive in its stories. Magic user shows up, no one will believe said person is a magic user who then proceeds to wreck havoc until Merlin stops them and Arthur gets credit. The last series took strides toward telling a story over the series and was much better for it. I am looking forward to the next series. I haven't seen 'Camelot' so I can't comment.

One of my favorite Arthurian books was Marrion Zimmer Bradley's 'Mists of Avalon'. Telling the story from Morgan Le Fey's perspective made a very enjoyable retelling of the Arthurian myth.

Its doesnt involve Arthur or Arthurian themes, so no. Its inspiration was the War of the Roses.
