I admit, I don't know much about these awards, do you think its any indication of increasing popularity in the US?

The first link doesn't work.

Spike is just a cable TV station; I don't think the awards mean anything beyond what their viewers vote for. Nothing like the Emmys or Oscars.

^Time Out New York is a very popular magazine here, with a bit of a counter-culture vibe (or at east an intended counter-culture vibe). The fact that Who is mentioned in it is pretty cool.
