c.2270 patrol ship

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
I wanted to make a ship based on the NX-01. Something that evolved into the TMP deco design for that period.
This is what I came up with so far.

I'm trying to make the "engineering" aft section flow more...

I don't know- any thought?

Sorry about the first image's orientation- I'll fix it later. I'm have issues accessing WP right now.

Something about that side view is reminding me of the Aventine just a tiny bit. Which is fine, because that's a beautiful ship, and it would be nice for it to have a little bit of lineage.

Question, though: Did you mean for the name of this thread to say 2170?

looks good :)

Thank you!

cannot wait to see more

I'll have to do some rough sketchup versions tonight. Though I like sketching stuff on paper.

I kind of see what you mean by the side view. Hopefully as I flesh this one out, it'll take on an equally more refined look.

As for the 2270 vs 2170, I didn indeed mean 2270. I want it to have that art deco style like TMP Enterprise. Something that follows the same aesthetics.

It's a many years after NX-01, but I want the similarities to end with basic features. I just figured NX's design would have been the spring board to many others.

I'm a little concerned with the top view looking a little Romulan, but I'll work on that.

I've also decided that due to it's mission designation, it won't carry a large shuttle compliment. It'll have two small shuttle, (not unlike NX), with a very small shuttle bay.

Interesting design. Fits in well with the Perimeter Action ships seen in Volume 2 of Ships of the Star Fleet.

There's nothing necessarily wrong with it looking a little like a Romulan ship, if it chronologically comes after Starfleet had seen those ships and found something worthwhile in the design to steal for their own. Or, if it comes before, and it was the Romulans that found something worth copying.

(Honestly, the latter seems more likely to me based on the old TrekLit notion of the Romulan War - contradicted by Enterprise's screen canon, but I do not care - where a Starfleet ship came into their system and did a survey, and it caused the Romulans to freak right the hell out and start rapidly building up to be ready for the next time they had unwelcome visitors. Maybe this was a ship of the same class as that first survey vessel, and the Romulans got some decent scans of it.)

Depending on if we're looking at a refit design, a 3-digit registry number may be too low. Most, if not all new build vessels by 2265 had 4-digit registry numbers.

That is very good sketch workmanship. And who cares if it looks too Romulan?! Quite frankly, we and the Romulans have a tendency to steal one another's design elements anyhow! Plus, depending on when she was launched, you might already have Forbin's Peregrine as a, well I can't remember the word I want to use, but you get the idea!
It makes me want to pick up my pencil and start sketching something, but I'm not going to, due to an upcoming Pokemon competition, and quite frankly, my current winning (read: losing) streak just isn't going to cut it.
That is the reason that I haven't posted any more progress on my Mandela class (that and there isn't any more comments in that thread).

Oh ya. I see how that would fit. These would be like higher volume production ships too I imagine.

I'm also pretty much in the camp where designs have familiar looks in essence, much like boats and ships. There can be wild variations in appearance, but in the end, the similarities far outweigh the differences.

Good! Looks like an updated TMP version of Floodcassos´s TOS NX-05: http://www.3dgladiators.com/forums/showpost.php?p=122892&postcount=13 ;)

I see that. I like that one!

The registry number it just a placeholder. There was no thought put into it other than to have a number for the sake of appearance at this point.

Sketching is fun too. You can get so many ideas down quickly. And I completely understand the comments dying out in a thread. Oh well- we're fickle posters here, eh? LOL.

That said- I need to get some posted here. I have a couple more. But I also have to stain a coffee table this morning first.

I've reduced the nacelles by 10% and am happy with that. And here's a rough front view, though the engineering bulge aft of the bridge is missing.

Agreed, and if you put A LOT more work into her, perhaps she will even end up looking like something worthy of Vance's, or even Jaynz schematics.

I'd like to see you do a refit Enterprise but with the Balson secondary hull and a slightly wider saucer...

looks like a good design and would fit well in a FASA book :)

You're right. It does have that FASA feel to it.

It already looks FAR to derivative here. Fortunately, the sketchup rough looks better.
