...It's fairly clear that the writers had Scotty's innocence in mind, or if they didn't, were nevertheless forced to write so that Scotty would at least plausibly appear innocent. The standards of TV writing wouldn't have allowed for anything else. But the end result is all that really counts, and in that end result, it's quite possible that Scotty was indeed the physical agent of destruction.
And, for all we know, partially "guilty" of it, too, being more susceptible to Redjac's influence than anybody else because he already had a trauma-induced urge to do harm to the women around him.
