My computer died monday after a power surge fried the power supply and motherboard, luckily the hard drives look to have survived, but It was time to upgrade anyways and with renewed vigor I head to NewEgg, determined not to break my bank, but still put together something worth laying down the cash.
Here is the cart as she stands tonight:
Mobo: ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz
Video: PNY GeForce GTX 260 896MB
RAM: G.SKILL 2 GB (2x1GB) DDR2 1066
Power: CORSAIR 450VX (Labeled as 450w but actually runs around 580w, with 80%+ efficiency)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200.11http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218
Totals up to a very reasonable cost for the power, though sadly I have to pay tax since I live in California where they ship out from.
If anyone has any suggestions on better products, or cheaper prices elsewhere, or has a horror story about one or more of these components, please let me know. I'll probably be ordering tomorrow morning.
Thanks,
Devin
