Several years ago there was a thread here in which one of our members was identifying the items used as props in Star Trek. I think he worked on Star Trek Continues, but he is now deceased. Anyway, that thread got me into the hobby of collecting antiques that are the same as the items used as props on Star Trek.
Now my collection has grown and I need an official place to store them. I found an old display cabinet and over the past three weeks have been working on refitting it as a display case for these antiques.
I wanted to make it Star Trek themed, so that determined the color scheme. I also wanted illuminated shelves, thus I took my first steps into LED lighting.
Here's a demo with the LED preset examples, along with a small sampling of my items:
What's left to do is:
- Mount the front glass door.
- Mount it on the wall.
- Finalize the wiring.
- Finalize the lighting sequences.
- Build a cover for the wiring.
Optional:
- Build a Star Trek style button panel to select sequences.
- Add sound effects to match lighting.
