Building a huge re-fit Enterprise model

It was discussed on TrekBBS nearly 3 years ago:

And there was a healthy dose of well-justified skepticism then. How much progress do you think there there has been since?

It's a money grab, and the premise of their pitch is so absurd, its wording so mawkish as to to appeal to only the saddest, most gullible suckers in Trek fandom. I was sad to see Nichelle Nichols roped into participating (under false pretenses I must assume).

Wasn't there quite a large version at the Star Trek Experience in Vegas? Did someone buy that one as well? I still don't get why so much money to make a replica of something that already exists in original form, or wouldn't cost anywhere near as much to make a new one.

Then have people see it on tour? Will there be anything else on display with it? I can spend a lot less money to see the TOS one in the Smithsonian as well as see the other museums in DC.

The IndieGoGo page says, "PE goal is now $28,000. Only $10,000 to go!"

...whatever that means.

Further down the page it says:
Phase Two goal is actually $45,000
We set a low goal to get the ball rolling so we still need $28,000

Then there's a Phase Three after that.

I seriously doubt that CBS/P would let them tour the thing and charge admission, even if they did manage to get it built.

But with advancements in technology and materials, it could be built for much less than what they're asking.

And that original video was horrendous. "George Lucas' library" my ass.

I never even thought of that! I just assumed it was a sincere project. I did find the extreme sentimentality a little odd, and doubt the necessity for a big touring model. When someone asking for funds seems to love ST models more than I do, maybe something is off about it.
