Intelligent people "concede" it was a successful movie because it attracted an large audience.

Yes, they can do that. Successful and good don't mean the same thing.

They also don't refer to as people as "sheep" because they liked a movie.

He made reference to all the "new" fans that jumped on board just for this movie, which is all well and good for the success of the franchise. But, if certain individuals jumped on board the Star Trek train simply for this movie, they were doing it to follow a trend. So, by an urban dictionaries' definition that is how I define them.

sheep
1. A group of people who lack the capacity for careful consideration, imagination, or individual thought, who thusly go with group and allow god awful trends and events to unfold and make us all miserable.

Good is subjective. Successful not so much.

The urban dictionary, nuff said.

But, intelligent people don't concede that it was a good movie just because it attracted a mass of sheep.

With statements like this, I'm sure you're going to have a great future on the nuTrek forum.

I am not seeing the strength behind the word "sheep" that you do. It was a comment spawned from another poster's description of what made STID worthwhile. Irregardless, I am not concerned with my future on the "nuTrek forum."

The movie was a critical and financial success. As a Trek fan who has been a Trek fan since 1984, and started out on TOS, I loved the film, and it felt like TOS to me.

Indeed (except for the date of Trek introduction). I have yet to figure out ID's sins that are somehow worse than any other Trek incarnation other than being faster paced, bigger moves and more explosions.

I know personal tastes will vary, but I, for one, enjoyed it as much as I liked TOS.

The movie was a critical and financial success.

To which my point was this alone does not make it a good film. I am sure we could find movies that were both a critical and financial success that you do not personally like.

I did gather that already about you, that you like STID. The debate has been hashed and rehashed. I am definitely not going to see eye-to-eye with someone who sees things that way.

And this, after I had just asked you not to do that. You now have a warning; comments concerning this to PM, pliz.

Duly noted.

And I think we're done here.

History wont be kind to this film. in fact even now the film has faced more criticism than most trek film to the point that the WOK director has slammed the film.

Who gives a flying frack about what two-trick pony Meyer thinks about Into Darkness? The movie made a ton of money, new (not old) fans and got a ton of great critical acclaim. That's what counts, not what butt-hurt fans or a butt-hurt director love to whine about it. And what negative criticism has it got that equals the worth of anything, anyway?
(emphasis mine)

OK, we weren't quite done, after all.

Shaka Zulu, you've been asked on more than one occasion to refrain from taking swipes of this sort at other fans/fan groups, and yet here we are again. Enough is enough.

This one earns you a warning; comments to PM, and the thread will remain closed.
