Buffyverse Mysteries

I'm thinking specifically in terms of the mythology and backstory of the Buffy/Angel universe itself. What are some things you'd like to learn more about?

For one, I would really like to know more about the history of Wolfram & Hart. At first we just think it's a law firm, but it pops up in Pylea with the Wolf, Ram, and Hart books. And then in Season 5, Illyria mentions that in her time, they were barely a bigger deal than vampires. So obviously, they haven't been around forever, and I'd like to know more.

Also, Angel reruns on TNT are best thing ever. Except that Fred just died, and I'm sad all day!

Yep, I'm with you on the Wolfram & Hart thing. It's so intriguing!

I'd like to know more about Whistler. He appeared in "Becoming, Part One" and "Becoming, Part Two," and IIRC he was intended to be in Angel but was replaced by Doyle instead.

My take has always been that they are minor demons who ascended by merely surviving, then gathering power and skills as they watched others enact grand plots and get dusted, for want of a better term. They were once content to be servants, but like good demon lawyers, they always made sure the terms of such service were favorable to them. They started doing favors for others at some point, obligating man and demon alike in ways little and big. They are smarter than mere 'mobster' demons - they wouldn't break the greengrocer's arm when times were lean - they prefer him to be in business, and connecting them to more business. They would, however, demand the greengrocer's first grandson as payment - and even then they'd be just as likely to have him adopted by a family that wants a kid, thus creating more people that owe them. They are powerful, particularly to those they own. But their real power lies in a Corleone-like favors network. They can get that rare flower that makes vampires docile because they own 10% of all flower shops and their owners, who can then get them in touch with the other 90%. Without spoilers, I'm going to ascribe what they did in 'After The Fall' to how deeply they have their hooks in LA.

So power? Yes. But mainly, they just have people that owe them on several levels.

I would've liked to have seen Spike's character explored further beyond the limited time allotted to him on BtVS/AtS.

I want to know how old or powerful a Vampire has to be to use the hypnosis thing. At first I thought you had to be as old as the Master (over 2000+ years) to do it, but then we see Drusilla doing it too. So how come Angelus, Spike and Darla can't?

I always figured that Joss was all about what worked for the characters, and didn't worry too much about Vampire Lore and such things. I suspect he gave Dru the hypnosis thing because it suited her "out-there" nature and Juliet's acting style.

Actually, the only Wolfram and Hart mystery I can't fathom is what the hell is so scary about a hart? It's like a male deer, right? I can see how scary a wolf is, or even a ram, but what the hell is so scary about a deer that it's part of Angel's triumvirate of evil? I mean, this is an animal too stupid to get out of the way of a moving car when you shine your brights at it, but it's a senior partner??? :wtf:

I always thought of the Wolf, Ram and Hart as totemic in nature, and are meant to symbolize the spiritual/magical nature of.....something. Umm. Yeah. That's where my theory falls down.

:D

I've always been fascinated with the flashbacks, so I would LOVE to see some more of thoughs.

As somone mentioned above, more slayer mythology would be awesome as well. Maybe a Buffy/Angel movie could answer all of these ;) (Hey, a guy can dream right?)

We saw Angel's World War II exploits in "Why We Fight", so I always wondered what he did during World War I.
Thankfully though the current comic miniseries "Angel: Blood & Trenches" by John Byrne covers this ground. I got the first issue which was great, but I decided to just wait for the TPB instead of getting the rest.

I'd like to learn more about W&H and the Senior Partners too. We even found out the name of one of them in 4.01 'Deep Down'
Linwood: "Oh. I'm hurt. Is that *really* what you think of me?"
Lilah: "Yes. And Mr. Suvarta agrees with me."
Linwood: "You spoke to a Senior Partner?"
Lilah: "He was really very helpful. He had some great hints on office furniture."

Although it does seem an odd name for a big scary

Of course, it would have been nice to be able to understand just what the hell was going on with Jasmine's plot regarding the Beast, Angelus, & so forth. And I'd like to see more flashbacks chronicling Illyria's backstory and the origins of the Slayers.

While we're on the subject, I've always wondered if anyone has compiled a historical chronological listing of all of the Darla, Angel, & Spike flashbacks.

Lmao it sounds like they outsourced the senior partners.

What about the Old Ones which the Master referred to? Was he talking about the like of Illyria or just some sort of misguided idea? I'd love to know more about W&H.

Great big pointy antlers. Ever seen a pissed off buck?

No. Usually the ones I see are too busy bouncing off the grills of semis or getting shot full of buckshot to be angry. I'll be sure to be scared when i see one.
