Buffy TVS Reboot Confirmed

"Dark and gritty" is its own kind of feel-good fraud, not unlike commercial horror movies. The whole approach drips sentimentality.

Buffy was always dark and gritty without ever needing to make an effort. If they try too hard, it will come across as very unauthentic.

For some reason I`m not as remotely excited for this as for the Charmed reboot..where it seems they´re going for a darker and grittier version. But Buffy...I don´t know...
You're excited for the reboot of Charmed, but not so much for the Buffy reboot, which brings back it's original creator? To each his or her own of course, but Buffy was such a highly stylized and idiosyncratic show, that there is no way it could have returned without Whedon. There was so little that was distinctive about Charmed that I don't think it really even matters if the original creators are coming back.

One of the many things I loved about Buffy was that the main characters were such distinctive personalities all different from one another. The 3 main characters in Charmed are really all the same personality. The 3 sisters were all manic pixies, although the show told us they were different.

I get that a lot of people liked Charmed and that's why it is being rebooted, but to me it never came close to the level of drama, humor, and horror, that Buffy reached. With the return of Whedon to exec produce, the Buffy reboot has a much better chance of returning to some fraction of it's former glory.

Charmed had its moments. It's been a long time since I watched it, though. I would probably rewatch seasons 3, 4, and 6 in their entirety with a few season 5 and 7 episodes to fill out the story arcs.

I don't get the connection. Other than occult and women for MCs, they have nothing in common. The tone, scope, and intended audiences are completely different.

**Though this does remind me of a 'joke' from back in the day about the WB programming directive about how if you were to deconstruct Buffy, the end result would be Angel, Charmed, Smallville, and Gilmores.

I remember watching a couple of episodes and thinking that it was a brainless riff on BTVS.

I tried watching "Charmed" but it was just awful. The dialogue and the endless array of hunky male guys who I think must have been hired just for their looks made it hard to get into it. Did Aaron Spelling ever really make even one good show in his entire career?

Love it or hate it, Dynasty was an exceptionally made show for its time.

And his involvement with Charmed was minimal.

Dallas was all a dream.

KInd of like how this new "Buffy" show is actually going to be in the real world which we got a glimpse of in the episode were we find out old Buffy is actually in a mental hospital. Turns out their is a actual Vampire Slayer in the world and the other Buffy might have known another slayer before she went into a fantasy based coma. If SMG ever shows up on the show it will be her playing that version of Buffy who has woke up again and has rejoined the real world.

I´m not that excited because for me Buffy was a one of a kind show. Yes...the reboot is done by its original creator, but that doesn´t nessecarily mean that he can do "the magic" again. It´s difficult to repeat a "miracle". Does he still have that..."spark"...that made Buffy a success? We will see.
