It also started an entire genre of "weird things secretly happen in middle-america but the teens will keep us safe".
So if you want that fix, you can get it elsewhere, like Stranger Things or Riverdale. Heck, even Ash vs. Evil Dead is in the same ballpark.
I wish they'd just make a sequel series and call it The Vampire Slayer. Just have it focus on a new slayer discovering her abilities. Maybe Buffy, Faith or Willow show up at some point and establish it's in the same universe, but keep it focused on something new.
Are they going to be mismatched police detectives forced to work together, who develop a grudging respect for each other?
A Manimal and Automan team-up would be the shit.

But, but... the werewolves didn't used to be able to do that, and vampires didn't have those awful ridges. This is clearly in another universe and Fox are just lying about it draw fans in...
I don't see the point in this. Like mentioned above the show was something that is hard to re-capture and without Whedon or any of the people connected to it like Morti Noxon or David Fury or Espenson(I know I am butching the names) having more of a influence overall I just don't see it coming close as good as the first show. At least I don't think this is being done by those hacks who use to have the rights and were talking about a reboot years ago or at least I don't they they are connected.
Me I would rather see a Fray show or a Faith show or how about that Ripper show we never got to see.

The problem is that, eveen ignoring the complete shitfest of the comics, season 7 ended with thousands of Slayers. The comics had them outed to the public almost immediately. So you'd have to have a show with them on the run, forming cells and largely trying to slay while avoiding the human populace as I don't think that aspect is avoidable.

Not another reboot, I prefer a sequel.

The series will still be titled "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"; they're just "inclusivising" the show by writing the lead role as a PoC.
The original BtVS is and always will be one of my favorite television series of all time, but I'll at least give this new project a chance, especially with Joss supervising the development process, lends itself very easily to the reboot treatment.

Just a idea but what if they don't give her superpowers? She has to train like a human from a watcher to fight vamps and so forth. Gives her more a Batman thing. Ordinal human fighting against things that are by nature are going to be more stronger than she is yet she still has to always finds ways to beat them. They really need to do something to separate this show from the old and skin color isn't enough. They need a new hook story wise because simply being socially progressive doesn't have the same impact in modern tv since many and many shows are doing this. This isn't 1997 where the first show was a trend setter. It also won't have Whedon dialogue if he isn't going to be more active that is usually only matched by someone like Aaron SOrkin.
Also make the vampires less human and more monsters and set the show in someplace that seems like a weird setting from what you might expect like Hawaii or England. Instead of dealing with American racist which are a dime or dozen on tv why not explore the issues that created Brexit.
