Buffy Season 5/ST: TWoK parallels

EJA

Fleet Captain
This is something I've had in mind for quite a long while now, and I just thought it was time I shared it with you all. Some of you might find what I'm about to say a little bit weird, but I reckon that there are a number of similarities between Buffy the Vampire Slayer's fifth season, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Hear me out. The villain in both stories is a deposed, exiled tyrant, Khan in TWoK, Glory in BtVS5; They both crave revenge on those they percieve as responsible for their current downfall, i.e. Khan blaming Kirk, and Glory blaming her fellow Hellgods who kicked her out; A main part of both stories is an object of unbelievable power, which can be potentially devastating in the wrong hands, i.e. Dawn Summers on one hand, the Genesis Device on the other. Both are acquired by the main villain and end up being used to cause to cause chaos and death. And then there's the big similarity, the fact that at the finale, a heroic character willingly gives their life to save their friends and loved ones - Buffy and Spock. Oh, and they both get resurrected in their respective follow-up stories. So, any thoughts? Comments? I realise it's a bit on the wacky side, but I'd like to hear what other people think.

There are similarities and you make an interesting case EJA but I don't know if Joss actually was thinking about TWOK when plotting out season five. That being said "Ben is Glory. Glory is Ben." Huzzah!

No, I don't reckon Whedon had anything of TWOK in mind when he did Season Five either, but it's still interesting how some things turned out.

Come to think of it, has anybody else ever noticed any parallels between Trek and BtVS?
