BT Home Hub/Voyager 100 connectivity question

I've recently upgraded my BT account to Total Broadband Option 3 - I had a standard broadband account before. I've been having a few problem with the Home Hub (mainly connection issues), and as I'd heard that older BT modems can be used instead of the Home Hub, I thought I'd give it a try.

My old modem is a BT Voyager 100, so it only has a USB connection, not Ethernet. I still have the old "Connect to BT Broadband" software installed on my computer, so I connected the Voyager 100, and used the software to get online - when I connected, it said my connection speed was 8.1meg, which is the speed I upgraded to when I switched to the Total Broadband package.

But here's the thing - am I logging into my Total Broadband account? As I have to use the old login software, I'm unsure. When I upgraded, did I still keep using the same account as before, but with a few things tweaked at BT's end to make it "Total Broadband", or are the two accounts (Old broadband/Total Broadband) separate?

Any Brits with a similar setup? Anyone know oodles of techy stuff about modems?

Thanks for any help.

:D

I'm not a fan of those USB broadband modems, but in this case you'll be able to use it to connect to your new account - all the tweaking will have been done at the exchange and their end (most of your connection settings won't have changed anyway) to get you the faster speed.

I recently 'cross graded' to a BT Home Hub from a Linksys Wireless G ADSL router.

Not had any problems with connection, though I wish the Hub had more advanced options.

Without the hub your missing out on the cheap calls you can get via the hub phone, that and a firewall and no longer having to ghetto dial up your DSL through the USB modem bodge the frogs used.

Are you using the ethernet or usb connections on the home hub?

Oh, ethernet - better than USB.

:D

I'm back using the hub, now - I just wish the connection wouldn't drop out as it occasionally does. It's no bother to reconnect, but still....

Odds are it's the line that's dropping, although those hubs are rather prone to faults & eccentric behaviour (judging from the bother some of my colleagues at work are having with 'em.....).
