Wow, sorry to hear that. You could always contest a traffic ticket. My older sister has done it twice, and she got off the hook. She didn't have to pay a fine or go to traffic school. But it depends on how lenient the judge is.

Such details won't always stop a citation. I know from a friend's account that it's possible to get a DUI while parked.
You could be drunk and passed out in the back seat of a parked car, but if the key is in the ignition and the car is running, they'll give a DUI. There was a big case here in Jersey a couple years back where such a thing happened.
