Bryan Singer sex abuse allegations

If he committed these acts he should be held accountable. But it's questionable that these accusations all turn up when his name is in the news related to his career. Usually when a new film is in production or close to release.

Wow. With all the news of sexual misconduct in the entertainment and media industries lately, one might think, oh great, another one. But no, this is still disturbing.

The industry has always been well-known regarding "sex for favors like appearing in a show", but pedophilia...

Nobody seemed to care 20 years ago and regular folk knew about a lot of it as well. What do people expect to happen as a result of all this brouhaha in Hollywood, et al?

If the accusations are true, it's perhaps like with Anthony Rapp and Kevin Spacey and the victim's feelings of disgust that Singer is still lauded in his industry that prompts them to say something.

Which brings me to my next question. There is a movie called Call Me by Your Name, starring Armie Hammer. It's a romance story involving a 17 year old boy and an older guy. Shouldn't it be under scrutiny?

This isn't a thread about fictional films completely unrelated to Singer. If you want to discuss Call Me By Your Name, how about starting a new thread, and actually saying something about it yourself instead of wondering if others are?

Yes, I know exactly what fiction is.

Since my comment was somewhat related to the topic, I don't see how it would be irrelevant. But hey, if it gives you immense satisfaction to police this thread, who am I to stop you? :techman:

Is there something wrong with a romantic relationship between a 17 year old guy and someone older in your view?

It depends on the law and where one lives, I suppose. In some cultures, young girls have had to marry older men, which doesn't make it right, but that's their tradition. I just brought up this movie because it's about a relationship that's not typically accepted in America.

So should fiction always come under scrutiny when it deals with uncomfortable subject matter? Is this implying that creators of fiction should fall under some kind of public suspicion if their works deal with such topics?

The accusations against Singer appear to keep coming again and again. If this happened only once you could say someone was just looking for money. But now it looks like the smoke does indicate a fire. The last time around he deflected with "outing" himself as bi and marrying a woman. We'll see what kind of shield he'll pull up this time.

Last time, Singer was able to provide evidence unequivocally demonstrating that the accusations were falsified because neither he nor his accuser were at the location at which the accuser claimed the abuse had occurred at the time the accuser claimed it had.

if the movie acts as a advocate by depicting a rape situation as normal and acceptible

That deserve condemnation

17 is legal in most of the USA. So a WILLING 17 year old dating a WILLING 29 year old is completely different than a 32 year old DA molesting an UNWILLING 14 year old.

I dated a 20 year old at 31 and I dated an 18-19 year old at 28-29. That's LEGAL. I can't believe I have to explain this to adults but it's 2017.

I have no clue where that movie takes place but here is a map.

30 States it's 16
7 States it's 17
12 States it's 18

The movie is an adaptation of a 2007 novel that takes place in Italy in the 1980s.

Thanks!

Age of consent in Italy is 14. Thus the movie characters are having a LEGAL and WILLING relationship. (Not to say it's strange, and more so a bad time for the film to be released. Maybe they can rerelease my favorite movie ' American Beauty'.)

BREAKING NEWS!

Roy Moore just announced he is going to be moving to Italy next month.

That was the last time around. It wasn't the first time. It wasn't the last time. We should try our best and avoid a "guilty by accusation" mindset but Singers seems suspect to me at this point.

Avoid "guilty by accusation" but no human right of "innocent until proven guilty" anymore?

In court they are all innocent until proven guilty, but this isn't a trial. Your employer can fire you if they looked into things and don't approve with your actions. I worked at Lowes and toward many horrible costumers told them to go to Home Depot. That was a fireable offense. In court though I would have freedom of speech, but that's limited in the work place.

I didn't know about the age of consent in Italy. I also thought being a minor was anyone under the age of 18. Pardon my ignorance.
