It was years after his work ended on "Star Trek" — but before the show developed into the juggernaut it became in recent decades — that Hyde noticed an article about the show in The New Yorker. It mentioned some "Trek" trivia, and one of the questions was, what was Kevin Riley poisoned with in "The Conscience of the King"?
"I thought, `Oh my God, this is really getting strange,"' he said.

Great article, nice to hear from the man behind this iconic character!

Ah yes, Communication Studies.... this decade's Sociology.

But seriously, it's nice to see that he went on to pursue something that he finds worthwhile, and that he recovered from his illness.

Nice article. Riley really did make a lasting impression on fandom.

(And has had a steady career in the novels as well.)

He sure did. It's unbelievable that he was only in two episodes of the series. He fit in so well with the cast it was like he was always there.

Like Lt. Kyle, Riley was on the verge of becoming a mauve shirt. They tend to aquire plot armor.

Though the plot armor eventually wore off for the Riley in Stargate Universe.
