Bruce Cook's sci-fi artwork

Something from the classics. A sketch of Nemo conducting the funeral --

-- and a painting of his wonderful sub.

I had to clean the dark gray from around this one (as I did with some of the other aliens I've posted here).

The old computer printout paper I drew them on has turned brown over the years, so to restore these drawings to the appearance of the one below I start by making the jpeg black&white (thus gray instead of brown), and then carefully making the area around the figure pure white.

The result is actually pleasing -- the pencil drawing blends with the gray of the discolored paper in a good way.

This is what it starts out looking like.

And this is what I get, after hours of carefully going around the edges, preserving all the funny little details I gave it. :techman:

Thanks, Sabra. Here's a drawing of a genuine, he-man space guy!

He goes with the rest of these crazy characters.

Thanks, one and all. :bolian:

The original on my wall at home is very pale, so the enhanced version of Science Fiction actually looks much better. I'll have to print out the enhanced version and frame it instead!

Here's two I finished fixing up last week.

These two (and many of the others you've seen) were drawn while I was working my way through college in the early 1990s as a phone operator for JCPenney!

The paper I drew them on has turned brown, so I have to turn the jpegs back to gray, lighten them up considerably, and then clean all the dark area around them so they stand out against the white.

The gray and black makes them look like they were drawn with India ink -- but it's just a common mechanical pencil on the back of discarded dot-matrix computer paper I took from the trash in the telephone center where all the operators were taking phone orders! :alienblush:

Another blast (off) from the past.

Thank you! These are mere flights of fancy -- aliens sketches just for fun. Note the date. Good lord, I did this drawing 32 years ago? Where has the time gone! :alienblush:

The Wishbone Express

For the last two months I've been creating illustrations for my published novel -- The Wishbone Express -- and posting every chapter on my message board, All Sci-Fi.

Each illustration is a composite of jpegs and original artwork by yours truly -- carefully combined to depict scenes from the novel.

Here's a few examples.
