"Brokeback Mountain" work as a comedy with Nathan Lane/Will Ferrell?

I saw the movie recently and thought it was a very good drama. Basically a romance that works because it's not some lame chick flick. I wish they would have done a better job showing the passage of time such as more extensive old age makeup and did more with Michelle Williams character who basically disapears after the divorce. Other than that it was a worthy Oscar nomination and was a better movie than "Crash."

With that said am I the only one who thinks the premise would make a funny gay comedy? Gay cowboys has got to be comedy gold to a good comedy writer out their. Oviously you want to ditch the unhappy ending and make the wives less serious and more zany but it could work.

Sounds like it needs a Mel Brooks approach. Or maybe the Farelly brothers.

no it wont work, Will Ferrell has never been in anything funny in his life.

Could a comedy about two cowboys fulling in love work, no I dont see it working, and any spoof is just another unfunny spoof.

He's made a lot of crap, but a few of his movies are hilarious and I think he's a pretty funny guy most of the time.

Mel Brooks would disagree with you. :vulcan:

A Mel Brooks approach would be fun. Still don't know if I'd watch it though.

Depends, are we talking Mel Brooks in the '60s & '70s (The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein) or Mel Brooks in the '80s & '90s (Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving It)?

If it's the former, I'd be all for it. If it's the latter, this movie would be full of fail before a single frame is shot.

I could see it, with some offensive Blazing Saddle style gags.

As for a new ending in place of the depressing ending to the real (and very good) film, I suggest a two man team rodeo competition. They eventully reveal thier secret to the audience after proving themselves real cowboys. Everyone cheers in Rocky IV fashion.:)

I thought this read Nathan Fillion and Will Ferrell. I actually think that would be funnier, Fillion has a gift for comedy if you ask me.
