Britain's Got Talent has a shocker

For everyone of them there are three times as many "winners" who fade into oblivion the day after they win their oh so coverted prize. I'd give some examples but I can't even remember their names. I read the other day in fact that some previous X-Factor kid winner has been dropped by their record label

Oh hang on, I remembered a classic- Michelle McManus!
And Shane Ward? Is that right? Where he is now huh? What the hell did he ever do? No clue

And I couldn't name you a single Lemar tune/song. No idea. And Leona Lewis seems to just ride on fading fame from that one shit song

Now actually that would be a good show, where all the contestants are hooked up to the mains, and if their performance isn't good enough they recieve electric shocks. I'd be the judge on it and deem them all shite, frying the lot of 'em :D

This chick showed that you cant judge a book by its cover. I saw a snippet of her perfomance on ABC News and ran to watch it on youtube! Simply amazing. I know everyone in that theater felt like crap after she sang for making fun of her.

I loathe these stupid "talent" shows. It's very rare that anyone that appears on them actually has a shred of talent in them. Can't they come up with something more original instead of simply rehashing the same format over and over again? It's not even like the people who win X-Factor or American Idol even go on to have real careers, and the ones that are successful just end up being contractually bound to some dodgy label that forces them to sing other peoples' music.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood of American Idol would disagree.

J.

As would that Pott guy.

As would Leona Lewis

^You know we invented all of your shows. Except we make them cheaper, with less episodes and years between new ones. Your 24 is just a rip-off of our 6. Admittedly, it was a bit boring with our Jack Bauer settling his differences with Marwan over a nice cup of tea, but it was still our idea!

Yeah, you guys did a great job with Star Trek. I miss Judi Dench as Captain Kirk. :(

I saw this on the NBC news yesterday and again online, this lady and her performance was absolutely astonishing. Hopefully the recognition she receives will do some real good for her.

Yeah, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I didn't think she was that good. Not a bad singer, but didn't make me want to listen to more.

She was really good, but come on...like three lines into the song half the audience was on their feet? She wasn't THAT good.

It was boring! She just sat there filling out requisition forms for 45 minutes a week!

I don't mean to single you out, because this seems to be one of the prevailing sentiments about her, but I just don't get it.

If these "talent" shows have proved anything, it's that a lot of good looking people have no talent. Why would people assume people that look good would sound good too, or that people that look bad sound bad?

And how many artists that get record deals actually have a hit single or a hit album? I don't know the numbers, but I would guess the ratio is more like 100:1 or maybe 1000:1. Given the odds, TV talent shows are doing pretty well at discovering future hitmakers.

Generally speaking, you've got to have your shit together to know if you really have talent or not. On American Idol, it's very easy to spot the train wrecks before they start singing, because they're the ones wearing the most ludicrous and hideous clothes. There are exceptions, but for the most part, if you're self-aware enough to know you have real singing talent, then you're probably self-aware enough to know that you should at least dress the part.

I remember as a child thinking Casey Kasem must be a big guy with a scruffy beard from the voice.

But he did get the hot trophy wife despite his diminutive stature...

You know what, I've absolutely lost interest in Britains Got Talent because of this woman. She is already odds on favourate to win (which lets face it, she will), and her singing voice is just above mediocre at best.

Paul Potts - AMAZING opera voice.
George Sampson - AMAZING dancer.

The only act I've seen so far that I think is worthy is the Greek father and son dancers (which to be honest, they weren't amazing, but it made me laugh and was VERY entertaining). The only reason why she is getting so much attention is because she's pug ugly with a good-ish voice.
