Bringing back a "classic Tardis".

Meredith

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I was just thinking that there might be way to bring back the old TARDIS from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

The Doctor and Amy and Rory travel back in time to somewhere and the TARDIS Disappears. Kinda like it did in the Curse fo the Black Spot episode.

Then they have to "Borrow" the TARDIS from one of his Previous incarnations for a few minutes relative time, but spend three to four episodes traveling in the classic Tardis to try to locate where his contemporary TARDIS has gone and retrieve it since he just can't get another one from the Timelords...

I dunno if it would work or not of if the old TARDIS design would look like crap in HD.......????

Of course the Doctor himself could mock the internal layout (desktop theme) as "So Very Old galifreyan, Dull and Boring, and no sense of adventure....."

Or could bring back the TARDIS from the TV Movie for television.....

Are we talking about the exterrior, or the interrior of the TARDIS? Becuase the exterrior could probably be tweaked with upgrades/malfunctions of the Chameleon circuit and the interrior could probably just be changed with some options somewhere. (River Song could probably figure out how to do it if the Doctor couldn't.)

That being said there could be some fun to be had with some multi-TARDIS shenanigans.

I do miss the lovely alien whiteness... and controls which looked like...well, which looked like they controlled something.

Yes please!

Although I doubt this will ever happen as they need to get their money's worth out of their current set.

I wouldn't mind something like the classic control room. The odd quirkiness of the one we have now is OK, certainly a step up from the RTD era one. At least the Doctor doesn't have to take a mallet to the console. I hated that foolishness.

^ The occasional bit of percussive maintenance was a nice touch in the show's original run, but having a hammer attached to the console so that the Doctor could belt away ad nauseum was probably going too far.

I'd like to see some kind of throwback to the old interior design, perhaps in the form of an old-style corridor or two. Maybe one day there'll be a proper update of the original console room style, even if it's a different TARDIS.

I wonder if the BBC have any of the old TARDIS sets or whether they deterioriated in storage or were destoryed when the show went off the air in 88.

Gather from the on of the confidentials that the Ecclston/Tenant console room set is still standing.

It had better! Otherwise, what's the point?!? If the console room looked like crap in SD, then it had damn well better look like crap in HD!

I've often wondered about the Doctor borrowing other incarnations TARDIS's (TARDISI?)... perhaps even bring together an armada of TARDIS's to battle a particular foe, and even hiding TARDIS's inside TARDIS's (trippy, no?)... BUT, is it possible?

It seems the Doctor is so connected to the TARDIS that it appears to change when the Doctor regenerates... I know it's not always the case, but when 10 regenerated to 11 seemingly so did his TARDIS, so if he were to enter a previous Doctors TARDIS I wonder if it would revert to his TARDIS as if there could be only one... so can they even co-exist in the same time? Has it ever happened? Perhaps that's why the TARDIS is so hard to predict where it lands as it can only exist in one era of time at a... uh...time. So, it can't arrive at a fixed point if another TARDIS is already in existence at that moment. Eh?

Aren't we suppose to be seeing the RTD era console room again in an upcoming episode?

I'd love to see the RTD-era console room come back. I loved the organic technology look to Gallifreyan technology during RTD's tenure.

The BBC didn't even have the classic TARDIS set as of Season 26.
Yep. We didn't see much of the TARDIS interior during the Seventh Doctor's run (not counting the TV movie). I do recall one scene that did call for an interior shot though--I think all they had left was the console and a single wall panel with a couple of roundels. As a result of not being able to do a wide or medium shot, the TARDIS interior wound up looking fairly cramped that one time...

At the end of The Five Doctors, the Doctors and his companions all got into the one TARDIS at separate times and then all took off in their separate TARDISs one at a time.

^That was changed for the special edition version, which had the Time scoop take the Doctors and companions back to their time streams.

In the Two Doctors, the TARDIS does exist at two points at the same time when the second Doctor summons his TARDIS using a remote control, and the Sixth Doctor's TARDIS is parked nearby. This gets Peri, the companion at the time, all confused.

As for TARDISes inside TARDIses, we have of course the recent Comic relief episode, and the Master pulls of similar tricks in Time Monster and Logopolis.

In the novels, the Doctor loses the original TARDIS and gets a replacement from an alternate universe where the Third Doctor died. He eventually gets the original back.

They've had the Doctor's TARDIS inside the Master's TARDIS while the Master's TARDIS was simultaneously inside the Doctor's back in The Time Monster! So, anything is possible!

If they did bring back a previous console room, it would almost certainly be modernized slightly in the same way the TOS bridge was modernized for Enterprise-- which personally I think would be really cool to see.

I'd love to see what a more solid and more detailed version of those old console rooms would look like.

If the TARDIS is as advanced in technology as it seems to be, surely its console rooms - indeed, *any* of its rooms - can be reconfigured on a whim, kind of like a more advanced holodeck?

Indeed, isn't there at least one DW novel which says that the TARDIS' "native" appearance is incomprehensible to most life forms, and that any time we actually see inside one, we're seeing a representation that's custom configured to its guests? (Like that VOY episode where we see the Q Continuum - represented by a road in a desert)

The TARDIS interior and exterior have both continually changed since the program's beginning--sometimes an explanation is given, sometimes it's not. For all we know, all those earlier console rooms are still there, but have been rotated elsewhere throughout the ship with new ones we haven't seen before...

There's a clip from Blue Peter showing what appears to be a classic series style TARDIS. It can be found at blogtor who. Apparentally it's actually the one from the competition last year, but it has an old style time rotor and looks a lot like the 1970s console all the same. They're also making a toy out of it.
