Just finished watching it, liked it a lot! I am a big orc fan so I was looking fwd to it. I thought Jacoby was a weak point though, oddly enough. Not much personality other than that bashful thing. The world was great and would have far preferred seeing more world, Elf town etc.. than all the endless action but I guess ultimately it more action than fantasy. It was chockers with stereotypes but I still had fun watching it and would like to see a SERIES so we can explore all these fantasy races more in depth.
Oh yeah and great sound track.
my wife and I both really enjoyed this, Ward and Jackoby were entertaining and I think they did the like/dislike buddy cop thing well. I appreciated how while Ward had specific issues about riding with Jackoby; he refused to hate him for his race. It would have been easier for him to go along with the rest of the officers , instead he stuck with his morals.
I liked the casual world building, dropping hints about history of the world and how things have developed so far such as.

- most brights are elves,
- elves are the upper class
- the 'Feds' can/do have techniques and technologies to deal with Brights and Wands.
- What exactly are fairies?
I would love to see this become a Tv series ( Or even better a book series ! ) to give them room to explore all the alternate history that got us this far.

I noticed two other things.
a) The various wall graffiti, at the movie introduction, indicate that the Dark Lord is an elf.
b) Jakoby mentions that an orc called Jirak united the nine armies and defeated the Dark Lord.
Maybe there were Elves and Orcs that fought for and against the Dark Lord.
A regular buddy cop movie?
A movie based on a best selling book or comic?
A movie with a $90 million budget that gets released to theaters?
A movie with orcs and other fantasy creatures set in a time period similar to the middle ages?
Random question: is this the biggest budget ($90m) movie not to be released in theatres? And if not, anyone know which is?
Hmm...really, looks like most of those, in a blender.
True, it's a mash up of a Tolkienesque World with a Cop story in modern times.
For me that is enough of a novelty to call it "something different".
That does not make it a brilliant movie, but I dont regret the time spent watching it.
Interesting, I did catch the line about an orc uniting the armies to defeat the ark lord but I missed the graffiti; I wonder if once upon a time there wern't any orcs; then an elf went dark and those who followed them became the orcs. That would work with Jakoby's line about orcs being the group that choose the wrong side.
looking forward to the sequel
Glad to stumble upon this and now I'm really hoping for a full Dresden Files film based more on the books than the TV show.
