Bride of Chaotica!, Love it or Hate it?

I just love a horrible supervillain. And Chaotica ist a state of the art comic book evil guy. Just charming. He even uses the good maniacal laughter! He only misses a coat.

Loved this episode! Kate Mulgrew can be such a ham actor anyway - it gave her a chance to flex the wings and add some cheese.

As much as I enjoy Kates acting, it's roles like Bride of Chaotica that I enjoy most - I've never been convinced by her death and dying scenes or her love scenes. That's not a criticism - we are all human and can't be good at everything, and besides, it's just my opinion. There are other actresses who do death and dying and love scenes well, but can't do meldorama or comedy.

One of my all time favs!

Arachnia was suppose to be over the top.

Death scenes, I have to agree, not one of Mulgrews strong points ... like in Coda when the doc "kills" her with the gas.

However she has me convinced with her LOVE scenes

I just saw this episode for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it. Conceptually I felt it was extremely imaginative. The thought of an alien race making first contact with holodeck characters was genius in my opinion. Also the fact that said aliens didn't register the flesh and blood members of the crew as being "real."

Tuvok chiding Paris, about how he and his holo secretary were probably very close, cracked me up.

I personally loved this episode - great decision to go with black and white. Mulgrew gets the opportunity to ham it up all she wants and cut loose so I'm not surprised when she says she had a blast doing it.

Now, that world would have made for an interesting Voyager Mirror Universe...

Hence why I love the incredibly inaccurate parts of Living Witness. Them being evil had to be fun. And if they did the MU then Tuvok couldn't be there, because if I remember right he was in the first MU episode on DS9 after Voyager left. :)

Love the ep, love the dress, love the purposeful overacting on Arachnia's part.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the large silver/crystal spider barrett holding her hair in place.

Loved the way Janeway looks purposefully at Seven during the briefing, as she assumes Tom wants her for Arachnia, then while everyone is looking at Seven, Janeway turns back to see that Tom "only has eyes" for the Captain.

Loved the way Tom was reading his telegrams from Earth... and Tuvok begged him to "STOP" and summarize.

And of course, Captain Proton or no... I loved the fact that Janeway didn't need anyone to "rescue" her!

PARIS: I was about to say, Captain Proton to the rescue, but I see you have everything under control.
JANEWAY: I'm the Queen, remember?

There was a barrette? I was too busy drooling over the dress and nails to notice. *runs over to her movie/bookcase to grab the fifth season* I'll have to check. :D Not that I doubt you. I just need to see it for myself.

Who was looking that high up?

YES! Also from that scene - Love the way she smirks at Tuvok when she thinks Tom isn't paying attention. And then turns back to look at Tom with that "I can hardly keep a straight face" look.

On another discussion board, a fellow poster had a mockup of a "Bride of Chaotica" Movie poster, but for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. The spider was very obvious in the poster. The closest I could come was a photo of Janeway dress up, and "I" can see it on the right side of her hairdo, but I doubt people who don't know what they are looking for can see it.

Ahh, here is a better look. Go to 6:58. (Oh, and I forgot to say I LOVE Janeway's face when she's reading the specifications for her costume.)

Oh, that reminded me of another favorite moment from this ep - Harry's line at the beginning:

"We didn't burst into flames in the last chapter; why are these recaps always so inaccurate?"

Made me wonder if that was a sneaky joke about the UPN Voyager promos.

OH, and I did finally see the spider hair clip. Nice touch.

Another fan signing in.

How about this. (Yes I know it's a fake ;))

Belanna does some great photoshopping and I use many of her avatars but some of her stuff doesn't fit out adult content guidelines. Just an fyi...

It was a great episode, I love episodes like that because it puts a break on the more serious side of the stories (in their case trying to get home and forever fighting the bad guys). It reminded me of early space tv progs and films from the 30's, 40's & 50's even it if they were a little before my time. Nice bit of retro!

One of my favorite moments in this episode is when Tom explains that someone is going to have to dress up as Arachnia. Janeway grins and looks at Seven: "Who'd you have in mind?" She's all "hah Seven you're going to have to make complete idiot of yourself and dress up in a ridiculous costume and ... wait... why is Tom still looking at me? Ah, hell no. Ah, HELL NO!"

I love this one!

Whever I've converted non-trekster friends into treksters, this is always the first one I show them. Never fails to get 'em hooked!
