News Brian Michael Bendis leaves Marvel for DC

They still have Jason Aaron, Mark Waid, Dan Slott and Nick Spencer. His defection is more indicative of how Marvel Corporate is neglecting the publishing side in favor of movies and the tv shows. Supposedly one of the reasons Bendis left was because he had less of a say over the movies after Feige started reporting to Disney (and apparently he was offered a role with Geoff Johns related to the movies at DC) not to mention he was becoming increasingly unpopular at Marvel with CW2 and the struggling sales of his Defenders book (which is very strange given Marvel's habit of fudging the numbers through overshipping)

Still a blow. I tried dipping into DC with Rebirth but apart from Superman, nothing stuck.

Time to try again ?

Wow, so now DC can have books that take 6 issues to tell a story that could easily have been done in 2? Spectacular

Honestly though, I like a lot of Bendis's work. His Avengers run is still the definitive run for me. But, he has problems and he hasn't put out a really good book in years. Maybe working at DC will be a good, fresh start for him.

Saw this yesterday, and my first reaction is this: Meh. No great loss.

Bendis hasn't written anything I've enjoyed since the original Alias and his Daredevil run. He's become even more obsessed with the same few tics that drive his writing since then, and the man is pathologically incapable of writing a shared continuity book without throwing his weight around. Be interesting to see how he gets along with editorial at DC, after Marvel basically gave him a blank check.

Can't imagine a single DC book he'd be good on other than Batman, but it's hard to argue that his sensibilities could be really strong on that character. I've heard Zatanna thrown around, and that just makes me want to cry. The man can't write anybody with interesting abilities, or with an interesting non-urban setting. He simply lacks the imagination for it. See, for example, his absolute debacle of a Guardians of the Galaxy run.

Really, the only thing about this news that is remotely interesting to me is who will he bring with him? I can say plenty about my feelings on his writing, but by all accounts that man has great relationships with some of the best artists in the industry. Marquez, Maleev, Oeming, etc. If this ends with DC raiding some of the best art talent in the world, that could be a truly extraordinary get. Especially with Marvel execs downplaying the role of the artist so heavily these days.

Side note to DC. Young Justice Rebirth. David Marquez. You now these two things go together, you can feel it in your very souls. You know you want to make this happen. *does Jedi mind trick pose*

So who will warap up his young x men stories, how will young jean, hank, Bobby, Warren, and scott go back in time?

That ship has long sailed. Due to some hiccup in the timeline (possibly caused by Secret Wars?) There is a duplicate group of young X-Men in the past fulfilling time's mandate, and the X-Men who came to then Future are stuck here.

Bendis has been hit-and-miss with me, but largely on the hit side. Overall I loved his Avengers run, everything he did with Jessica Jones was top-notch. I never read his Daredevil, but it is on a very long to read list.

His X-Men and his Guardians of the Galaxy runs were the misses for me. At first, I liked the idea of the time displaced young X-Men, but I believed it to be a finite tale with a pre-planned ending act, such as Bucky's run as Captain America. However, as a new status quo with the original team just stuck here in the future, it fell flat for me and ultimately was rather forgettable. I enjoyed the book that focused on Cyclops, Emma and the team that they formed more than the young X-Men book, and even that book ended so forgettably that I can't remember how it ended.

And his Guardians never, ever clicked with me. He never got the voices of the characters right for me in any way, shape or form.

As someone still enjoying Miles Morales Spider-Man, he'll be missed by me.

Also makes me realize just how much of his content I actually own (and for the most part, enjoy).

As long as King stays on Batman, Bendis can take over any other title as far as I'm concerned.
