Saw this yesterday, and my first reaction is this: Meh. No great loss.
Bendis hasn't written anything I've enjoyed since the original Alias and his Daredevil run. He's become even more obsessed with the same few tics that drive his writing since then, and the man is pathologically incapable of writing a shared continuity book without throwing his weight around. Be interesting to see how he gets along with editorial at DC, after Marvel basically gave him a blank check.
Can't imagine a single DC book he'd be good on other than Batman, but it's hard to argue that his sensibilities could be really strong on that character. I've heard Zatanna thrown around, and that just makes me want to cry. The man can't write anybody with interesting abilities, or with an interesting non-urban setting. He simply lacks the imagination for it. See, for example, his absolute debacle of a Guardians of the Galaxy run.
Really, the only thing about this news that is remotely interesting to me is who will he bring with him? I can say plenty about my feelings on his writing, but by all accounts that man has great relationships with some of the best artists in the industry. Marquez, Maleev, Oeming, etc. If this ends with DC raiding some of the best art talent in the world, that could be a truly extraordinary get. Especially with Marvel execs downplaying the role of the artist so heavily these days.
Side note to DC. Young Justice Rebirth. David Marquez. You now these two things go together, you can feel it in your very souls. You know you want to make this happen. *does Jedi mind trick pose*
