Sitting around after being laid off hasn't been filled with free time. I spend hours each day pouring over Careerbuilder, Monster, Ihire, Simply Hired, Linkedin, Jobfox and other job boards. I'm also getting regular emails from people wanting me to sell insurance. I think that I need to take a day for myself though. It is time to brew beer.
Every now and then I like to brew my own beer. So, today I'll go into the garage and get out my brewing kit. There will be much washing and scrubbing getting things ready for the brewing. I believe I will brew my Maple Marzan, since I'm originally from Somerset, PA. Somerset makes the sweetest Maple Sugar and syrup in this hemisphere. Anybody out there no what spotsy is?
Regardless, I'll use a double dose of dark malt, a pint of maple sugar, some anise and some West Virginia hops that a friend gave me. It will be a six gallon batch, with a week or so in the fermenter and then another two weeks in the bottles. I like using those bottles with the ceramic lids. The reason is that you can avoid the bottling step, and those bottles are a little larger and then you don't have to do as much washing with those bottles. Brown bottles of course so that the light doesn't skunk the beer as with green bottles.
Are there any other home brewers out there? I'd like to here of some new recipes. I very much like trying new recipes every now and then.
