Brett Ratner makes racial slur

Dream

Last week, Brett Ratner told the world that yes, he did "bang" Olivia Munn, but it was "before she was Asian" (an admission he made not while under questioning by Howard Stern but as a guest on a basic cable talk show). Ratner grew no less shy this weekend, according to Twitter and several Vulture sources: After a screening of his film Tower Heist at L.A.'s Arclight Cinemas, the director came out for a Q&A, and when asked by the moderator whether he prepares and rehearses with his actors before shooting a scene, Ratner waved his hand dismissively and said, "Rehearsal is for fags." Let's hope Ratner revises that attitude prior to producing this year's Academy Awards ceremony

What a dick. His movies suck and I guess we now know why.

Yeah, can't say I'm too surprised here. Brett Ratner never struck me as someone with a lot of decorum or understanding of society.

The ultimate irony is that the man uses a slur against LGBT Americans... yet his dream project is to adapt a Broadway musical.

I'm the only one thinking that this guy getting to "bang" Olivia Munn is the most offensive part of the story?

I see the "slur" part, but where's the "racial"?
People who are united or share a common history are considered a race. Homosexuals are a race of people, using the word "fag" is a racial slur.
Making a comment about Olivia Munn "before she was Asian" is a slur as well.

With that said, I'm surprised this makes news here and not the death of Heavy D. which is more shocking and news worthy than anything Ratner says.

In college, my frat brothers and I were a united group that shared a common history. I never realized the Deltas were a race.

Race is slippery, because it's only... well, conceptual. There's nothing really empirical to back it up.

That's true (as if the fact that Ratner is an ass), but let's not define it so broadly as to render the term completely meaningless either.

They may not have been "racial" slurs, but it's still bigotry.

My definition of "bigotry" is denying people rights and/or priveleges or belittling/abusing them based on the way they were born.

No, they're not, and it isn't. It's a slur, but not a racial one.

The "before she was Asian" line, however, is a racial slur

He lied about that. He was just trying to get attention.
Good to know. :techman:

I've never gotten the feeling that rap artists have a big following on this board. I didn't really feel a sense of surprise or shock at Heavy D when I heard it. He was a big man, unhealthy size by most standards. I will not be shocked to find out it's natural causes due to heart failure or something similar related to his size. It's a loss but I don't see the shocking part in the story on his death.
