Brett Ratner directing Conan?

The thing about Ratner is, while he's no visionary director, he doesn't really do much to screw his movies up, either. If the script is solid and they do a good job with casting, this should turn out to be a decent movie.

So who would everyone like to see direct and star in a Conan movie? Looking at directors with a proven fantasy track record Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro are probably out. Rodriguez is to make a Red Sonja movie, so maybe he could do the double. Zack Snyder has a good CV at this sort of thing. Michael Mann - a little ambitious? Is John McTiernan past it?

Star wise, Vin Diesel and The Rock physically might fit the part, but I don't really see them as Conan. There aren't too many other major movie stars with that sort of build around nowadays. Might they go for someone more in the Viggo Mortensen, Christian Bale or Daniel Craig mould, more of an Actor with a capital A, turned action man? Eric Bana? Henry Cavill? Goran Visnic? Javier Bardem?!

The Schwarz movies were fairly decent fantasy films. They just weren't Conan.
