BREAKING: Weird happenings at Infinity Ward

Yeah. Although on the flip side, this basically gives both Treyarch and the junior guys at IW a chance to "prove themselves". Certainly the next IW game will come out before Respawn's game anyway.

the higher ups can leave with no problem because they were getting paid well. the grunts of the team, will stick it out until bonuses are paid out then maybe start looking for another gig.

in the end, this wont mean much to any gamer. Respawn will launch whatever new game they've got in 3 years, and advertise it as "from the creators of MW." they will be judged on that game (though the gaming "press" will be overly generous because of this "sad" story)

I've seen many leads break off from a big studio and then do nothing of note (hey Richard Garriott!). so to me, Respawn will simply be judged based on the quality of their games, not what games came before (unless EVERYONE from IW joins Respawn).

I find it kind of funny that half of the people suing are still working there. It just seems really awkward... especially if you're still at IW and not part of the suit.

One thing about that though, is that these types of bonuses almost always come with strings attached. If they get the bonus it will likely be with the caveat that they have to stay with the company for a set amount of time otherwise they'd have to pay the bonus back.

Now, I have no idea if that's going to be the case here, but it almost always is and I very highly doubt this would be any different.

I dislike the word "bonus" as something "owed". I think by definition a bonus should not be owed, merely given as incentive.

If the bonus is specified as part of their employment contract, then it's owed to them assuming they meet the fulfillment conditions.

It's pretty standard for businesses to call this sort of thing a bonus and codify it in a contract in this fashion. The term is a little misleading in that regard, but all that matters is what is in their contracts.

Personally i think its nice to see that there is such a thing as loyalty in this day and age. The staff at IW could have kept their mouths shut and taken Koticks 30 pieces of silver, instead they have shown loyalty to their former bosses and refused Activisions bribe.
I hope that they win the current law suit against Activision so that the publisher giants finally get it into their heads that it's not okay to treat their development teams like crap.

Easy to be on the high horse when you know your own skills are in high demand and that you'll most likely get another job immediately when you leave the company.

Many people don't have that luxury and take all kinds of crap from their company just to keep their job.

That said i can't believe Activision would mishandle this so badly but i guess it's not unusual for corporate managers to not understand creative people and just see the financial bottom line. They just look for ways to maximise profits and came to the bright idea to fire the lead designers because they demand too much and are maybe too difficult to control. What they didn't anticipate was the avalanche that followed and they may have well flushed a shitload of potential profits down the toilet because they wanted to save a few bucks or some egos couldn't work together.
